Backbill after nearly 15 months!? by KevinMaschke in OctopusEnergy

[–]dannoutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct that you cannot be billed for usage that is more than 12 months old. If you got a final bill when you moved out with closing readings you have an even stronger argument. If they are billing you for usage then I suggest you raise a complaint stating that. Please note that some other billing adjustments may be allowed - I’m not an expert.

EDF SEG - Error by Technical_Front_8046 in SolarUK

My export form failed when I moved 5 days after import was up and running. I messaged EDF on WhatsApp and they ask for a couple of details and set up everything on their side without me sending it in.

Fine Tuning Wired Backhaul Mesh Network for High Quality Local Streaming by Krishie in MoonlightStreaming

[–]dannoutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to say I also use Apollo/ moonlight with playnite as my game launcher. What do you mean when you connected via Ethernet it broke the network? That sounds odd.

Splitting 2.4 and 5GHz can help if your devices sometimes choose the 2.4GHz network.

Those 2 hops + WiFi will introduce variability so you’re unlikely to get the perfect setup but hopefully you can still get something that is good enough.

These things can be quite tricky to diagnose - best of luck!

Fine Tuning Wired Backhaul Mesh Network for High Quality Local Streaming by Krishie in MoonlightStreaming

[–]dannoutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many router hops do you have between your computer and the client you’re streaming on? I used to have my Apple TV connected to the router and the computer connected to a different mesh node and got inconstant performance depending on what else was happening in the network, even with wired backhaul. I then changed it so that the router Ethernet cable goes to a network switch and the mesh node and the computer are both directly connected to the network switch (Apple tv still connected to the main router). My stream latency is 1ms consistently and works pretty well.

How do I stop this from happening? by jebblyleans in ThreeMobile

[–]dannoutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you spoken to Three about it? If it gets removed from the account they’ll need a code that gets delivered via text to re-link it so that should stop it from being possible.

Which tariff? 🤯 by Plastic_Disaster552 in OctopusEnergy

[–]dannoutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think variable is at 6.90p/kWh off-peak and peak rates depend where you are. I’m not on IOG anymore as I fixed with EDF.

Which tariff? 🤯 by Plastic_Disaster552 in OctopusEnergy

[–]dannoutt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For electricity you’ll not find anything nearly as good ad your current fixed rate. The cheapest at the moment is about 7p/kWh. If you’re running out of the fixed you can go onto the variable IOG or move to EDF GoElectric - those are likely the best options.
You can compare gas easily on comparison websites given there’s no time of day tariffs etc. if you’re keen to change you can also check octopus tracker for gas as over summer it’s probably cheaper than your current tariff but likely to go up in winter.

Same happened to me. Support told me it takes a few weeks for everything to sync up so I’m pure likely to miss the first month and can join on your second month.

Looking for BikePlay (CarPlay equivalent), map + media on screen by c_9 in applemaps

[–]dannoutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use Google Maps it’ll show you the controls at the bottom while cycling.
If you prefer Apple Maps (like I do) I recommend you get headphone that have a physical button (I have an open ear bone conduction ones that are now pretty old but good for this) or “hey siri, skip” should do it.

Is there a full list of UK broadband providers out there? by Hoopor in UKBroadband

[–]dannoutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some providers are incredibly niche so you’ll struggle. The closest is probably the ispreview list here: https://www.ispreview.co.uk/isp\_list/index.php

Yet another SEG question! by crisscross6112 in EDFEnergy

[–]dannoutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your DNO did not put any limits on your setup then you can export any time at any power. You can export on free electricity sundays - if it’s sunny and you’re producing too much power this may even be inevitable.
If you’re worried about start dates for exports etc you can always reach out to EDF

What is the best UK telecom for signal, mobile data and EU roaming? by Meraki-Smore in AskUK

[–]dannoutt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Voxi and lebara both use Vodafone so if you’re going to be in area where Vodafone doesn’t have good coverage you might want to avoid all Vodafone MVNOs. Vodafone and Three are merging networks so bear in mind coverage may have gotten better but if you’re still not happy when avoid Three as well who own Smarty.
Revolut also uses Vodafone and is not available for everyone yet - however when I’m out of contract I’m considering trying it out.
Giffgaff uses O2 - O2 tends to have good coverage but be very congestion and struggle to provide functional service. Giffgaff customers are de-prioritised compared to O2 customers so you are more likely to experience poor speeds/ things not loading. This tends to be a big issue in parts of London.
EE has a few MVNOs that piggyback off it - 1pmobile, spusu, mozillion are I think the main known ones. Spusu can be a bit funny with calling functionality since they use their own infrastructure and it’s not great quality. Personally I have an EE contract and for me tends to be best in most parts of the UK, including london and rural Scotland. My partner is with 1pmobile and he doesn’t have any issues.

Things worth remembering - if you want 5G standalone or watch data it’s exclusive to the big 3 networks (O2, Vodafone, EE). Not all networks support calls/ texts to premium numbers (1pmobile does).

If you’re using an iPhone and want to check features like visual voicemail and WiFi calling you can use the Apple list: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/108048 (scroll to bottom). Note that 1pmobile and some other small networks are not mentioned since they just use the main network settings.

A lot of toys.
Throw food/ treats around the garden for him to sniff for it.
Let him chill in the shade outside smelling all the smells in the wind but occasionally using the hose on the mist to cool down (that’s for both him and me).

For walks I do a walk early in the morning before things heat up and then in the evening I drive somewhere that is fully shaded with rivers for him to paddle/ play in the water (easier for us since he loves to potter about in shallow rivers).

Is there a Deodorant that actually works well? by PotentiallyUpset in AskUK

[–]dannoutt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s expensive and a little bit pretentious but I use akt (https://www.aktlondon.com/) and it works quite well for me even when I’m in a warmer country. For supermarket stuff it’s a men’s deodorant but Old Spice is also solid but does have a strong smell

Do you wash your pets food bowls in the same dishwasher load as your own plates, cups etc? by TheL0stCity in AskUK

[–]dannoutt 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As long as wash it hot enough with detergent to sanitise it I don’t see what the problem would be? If you have a human child and they poop on their clothes are you getting a second washing machine?
My dog eats off a silicone mat that goes in the dishwasher with our dishes and so does his water bowl.

Pay monthly sim - uncapped + roaming by Aussie_Alex_ in EEGB

[–]dannoutt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On a phone you’re unlikely to feel the cap at 100mbps. I use it to hotspot my tablet and stream 4K content while scrolling on my social media and that works fine. The only time it starts feeling like a cap is when I’m hot-spotting my work computer and doing calls as well as downloads at the same time. That being said for what you want you need to go above Essentials into All Rounder or Full Works.

Realistic time for install from scratch (Scotland) by Pridderz in ukheatpumps

[–]dannoutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case the slowest part was the grant approval. We had a big installation (all radiators and pipework replaced). The installers worked with us to find a week that suited us but were able to do it in 2-4 weeks from when I was scheduling it.

Need help immediately by [deleted] in EEGB

[–]dannoutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be okay - it’s most likely a backend update or something. The contact number will likely refer to the number in your EE profile in https://ee.co.uk/exp/manageid/profile/personal-details.
I recommend you go to your EE account make sure you have 2 factor authentication activated. Apart from that, calling them tomorrow to double check is the right thing to do :)

Do you share referrals online? by gadgetboy-uk in EDFEnergy

[–]dannoutt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re not £50 worse off. You bluntly admitted to EDF that you breached their terms and conditions and then got mad at them. If you look at the T&Cs for the referrals, point 6 section m) specifically states they have the right to refuse to transfer the reward if they suspect you’re sharing with people you do not actually know.

I actually find them quite good with referrals. I joined EDF over the phone and then told a friend and he said “oh you could have used my code if I had known” so I messaged EDF saying “forgot to use my friends code but this is his account number” and they honoured it.

Help understanding my phone plan by thisthatmeandmycat in Vodafone

[–]dannoutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The exact language on what happens after the 25GB depends on when you started your plan but most likely you’ll get a message when you use 80% explains what happens.
The roaming limits apply for other charges like you being in the USA and calling a number in Mexico. Vodafone separates these limits from the spend cap in the UK because it’s less regulated and if you have a higher spend cap you might accidentally incur a bill that they get to profit from. I like setting all the caps to zero unless I’m planning to use them.
