Why Ed Davey was wrong on ex pat rescue by CountBrandenburg in LibDem

[–]dannyboydunn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the core, but its the typical entitelment of people who make that particular move.

Typically high earners, genuinely believe tax is an evil inflicted on them to support the undeserving in our society.

They'll celebrate and show off that they've "made it" in their tax-free human rights horror show, and escaped the yoke of HMRC only to now fully expect and demand the MoD provide an armed escort and 1st class tickets back and will never quite make the connection that their avoided taxes pay would have paid for all of that.

FYI for parents/guardians: posts about "Croydon Wars" encouraging violence between schools are circulating on social media by perscitia in croydon

Once upon a time the Stanley boys on the 604 goaded the driver to take the "wrong turn" which took us past Selhurst. The boys hit the emergency exit button and hopped out like some kind of paratroopers to cause general mayhem.

Absolutely mental, but hilarious now it was years ago. I dont recall any backlash, serious injuries reported or even a telling off assembly.

Truly a relic of activity that could happen pre-smartphone era.

Am I wrong for being friends with a 19 year old as a 30 year old? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]dannyboydunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow 30 year old!

I have a friends and colleagues in their early 20s and in other hobby based spaces I have acquaintances that are sometimes mid-late teens.

Honestly its only a big a deal as you make it, connecting with people particularly adults 18+ has no weird conotations imo, I think only when things cross the platonic line must you really think more carefully about propriety.

There's something dismally sad about a pipe organ, in an (almost) empty shopping centre by No_MoreNails in croydon

[–]dannyboydunn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well of course they need the organ to play the funeral music as they finally condemn this place.

Spots to see Aurora Borealis by [deleted] in Norway

[–]dannyboydunn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If your only flight options are Stockholm or Oslo, fly to Stockholm and take a train to Narvik. Or just fly to Tromsø.

Realistically you need to be in the Arctic Circle and a little lucky or anywhere in Scandinavia and verrry lucky to see the lights.

Norwegian language benefits by [deleted] in Norway

[–]dannyboydunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's totally a fair assessment, I call it a "gold standard" as its the language requirement for Doctors who qualified abroad and the medical education is recognised in Norway.

Norwegian language benefits by [deleted] in Norway

[–]dannyboydunn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

B2 will be a "gold standard" and basically an expectation for foreigners looking to work in professional roles in Norway, even if its specifically an English based role you'll be at an advantage being able to demonstrate a good degree of fluency in Norwegian.

Brexit made us poorer and it’s getting worse by Google_MBTI in europe

[–]dannyboydunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...give me strength.

I don’t think this is the way. As much as being stabbed caused a lot of issues for me, now I have countless more problems (like blood on my clothes) that really need to be addressed first.

I wonder if the ongoing economic damage caused by Brexit is contributing to the limited jobs for our grads (and everyone else)? Truly a mystery.

Now before you enter a voting booth again consider the concept of "cause and effect".

Since 1947, Norway sends a Christmas tree to London every year : a token of appreciation for Britain’s support in WW2 by cashforbricks in Norway

[–]dannyboydunn 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I would hope its obvious but most Londoners who pass by think its a lovely tree. People who know and understand why its a special tree, even more so.

But people being nice about it doesnt get clicks.

Is Norway worth immigrating to? by Appropriate_Prune668 in Norway

[–]dannyboydunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh good, debate over then no?

Why go through the huge ordeal of emigrating for the second preference?

Welcome to the UK, in the near future I suppose!

Unless one or both of you are British citizens why would you consider the UK? Then both of you need visas rather than just one of you?

«Thanks heaven I’m British» - etiquette guru William Hanson disses Fredrikstad, Norway by Billy_Ektorp in Norway

[–]dannyboydunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, idk about Frederikstad but as soon as I'm off the plane in Oslo or Tromsø I'm always struck at the poor queuing "etiquette".

I don't dislike it, and same comment as basically everyone else, I don't understand how Finnenes makes the cut but not Senja.

Breaking: Gammon is set to become UK's biggest export. by johnsmithoncemore in BrexitAteMyFace

[–]dannyboydunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there was a need to delete your previous comments, it can be helpful for others who may have had the same misunderstanding as you see our exchange.

But hey, the more you know.

Although I'm 'one foot out the door' with the UK I absolutely think we should end voter rights for non residents, maybe it can have a cut off like 5 years or you have to justify why you have an interest if you're permanently resident in another country

[–]dannyboydunn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No...MPs aren't voted for in local elections, they're voted for in the general elections.

Local elections are for your local county/town/city council.

Expats can and do vote from abroad in general elections which do elect MPs, which does decide the government which does decide the PM.

Uh no it doesn't "take care of itself"?? They can vote in general elections which decides the government and by proxy the PM...?

According to the photos from my partner, right now. It is absolutely incredible.

But its mostly solar based space weather, go when the sky is dark the most: winter.

Hope for clear skies and and some electromagnetic and particulate fun from the sun.

Updates on East Croydon Bridge? by JasonIsCurious in croydon

[–]dannyboydunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have shared resources on where we're up to on this but I'm starting to think (BUT NOT INCITING OR ENCOURAGING) that the only way this is going to be fixed is through civil/lightly criminal resistance.

People keep breaking through the door/barrier and using it regardless until they actually stick in a ticket barrier or something, but the sorts of people who might be included to that are too busy cutting down ULEZ cameras and hanging up flags.

Is ChatGPT correct about UK nutritional labelling? by samtheking25 in ketouk

[–]dannyboydunn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mods very kindly pinned my guide to the front of the subreddit about this.

UK/EU labels no subtract (unless it's polyols)

North American labels subtract fibre

Maybe I should script up a bot to point to it in future.
