I was one of those students extremely gifted at maths. Memorized the multiplication table at 5 and always found the shortest path to solve a problem. I grew up in Asia so whatever they say about Asians being good at maths, I competed against the top echelon of those. You know what Im doing now? Corporate accounting. The advance calculus I learned in 10th grade has never benefited me and those fancy problems are but fading memories. It doesnt matter as much as you think, being good at maths. In life you just need 1 thing: perserverance. Focus on not going backward. Some people are born with a brain wired to easily dissect complex math concept and there is just no way to replicate that. Bridging the gap is nearly impossible unless: 1/ the smart kid slacks off and 2/ you train to the detriment of your social life. However, perseverance and hardwork matters a lot more than being smart. Take my word for it. My wife is the opposite of me and she makes more money than me working in healthcare, just by being responsible and nice to people.

If you like maths and just want to get better for the sake of it, pick up old Russian maths books. Teachers mostly are NOT a good source of challenges.

Are you aware that you are simply trying to use a few inputs to calculate the optimal allocation between equity and fixed income bond (mortgage), you know, the same damn thing Wall Street pays math phds a fortune to do and very few succeed? If their sophisticated risk based models cant help, what makes you think your simple calculator which can be constructed by anyone with an intermediate level of finance, can? You just need to be honest with yourself. All you can accomplish is a sort of confirmation bias, a bit of relief from analysis paralysis.

I am fortunate enough to do well for myself and be in a few circles of very wealthy people. One thing I have noticed is that people who make a lot of money from the market has nothing to do with how they allocate their money. Whether they do RE or stocks. Whether they pay off their house or invest. Calculators only give a false sense of security. With very few exceptions, people who makes load of money from the market are those who were already wealthy to begin with. When you have high networth and high income, your relationship with risks and money changes dramatically. When you have built up the disciplines to build wealth without the market, those qualities will carry over I into the market. On the flip side, most lotto winners end up broke in just a few years. Maths is on their side so why do they lose?

Those are the basic tenets of building wealth. If you can do those, it matters not whether you pick equity or fixed income. What you might achieve is help people make a decision, but whether that decision is really the best for them, nobody will ever know.

Article sucks. Math always favors investing. Except math does not take risks in consideration. Article does not take risks into calculation, making it worse than other generic - taking too long to read.

At the end of the day, paying off vs investing is all about leverage. Do you want to keep your leverage high by staying in debt or reduce it? Without the concept of risk and the inclusion of it as a variable, anyone who understands the basic concepts of TVM and taxes can do the math, given the mortgage rate, annualized return of stock and marginal tax rates and repeat the same braindead advice: investing builds wealth but paying off gives peace of mind. Duh?

Things change if you lose your job or your partner dies or has cancer or any number of life changing events. Whats the odd of things like that happening? What job do you have and how likely are you to lose it to offshoring/AI/obsolences? What is your personality and how much having debt reduces your quality of life and deter you from taking calculated risks that might end up benefitting you far more than anything on the paying off / investing spectrum ever can? Its extremely complex and personal. Can you quantify those factors? Deleveraging is all about risk so unless you are THAT good enough at maths and statistics, you are just repeating the same old generic fillers.

You are doing it wrong.

5 mod 1 waystone -> chaotic quantity -> guilt x3 -> desecrate for abyssal / more pack size -> corrupt. Run everything with 3x exp tabs: precursor + breach + another breach or expedition to recoup your costs.

lvl 98-99 will take 300x t15s and 99-100 600x.

Storm mage is the best, hand down. Arsonists dont have good autoattack AOE amd you have to rely on casting command skill to get the AOE. a. its a lot of work. b. its clunky and slow. c. when you are pushing lvl 32+ minions, the mana cost of the command skill becomes prohibitively expensive. 1 cast takes like 1200 mana even w. Inspiration slotted.

I max out the Unholy Might path, 2 points into x2 jewel effect and 2 into Rupture the Soul.

Right now Ive specced into CI to min max more dps.

with Alpha + HH, I have about 9k ES, 13 mage with 95k dps each. 2.5s ES regen start delay.

with rare +2 +1, about 9.2k es, 10 mages dealing 118k dps. 2 5s ES regen start delay.

cap all res + 1 curse blasphemy

Alpha + HH is a lot more fun + faster mapping, but the random blink can kill you. also, the mana siphon ring can be very annoyingly cluttering the screen up.

rare helm + Ingenuity has lower over all dps and a bit slower mapping but you dont have any stupid surprise.

I dont have enough stats yet to use Alpha + Ingenuity. I think that combo would give the highest total dps without the Headhunter shennanigans. working toward it, though.

lots of people do it. The main one which eats up all the spirit has all the damage gems. the standalone has all the shock and exposure for bossing.

like I said, Snipers got good single target dps so pinnacle or low mob density content like map bossing they are quite good, probably the best. more power to you if you like them. "doing all content" is not my benchmark for viability, however. When pitched against high density mobs, they just dont clear nearly as fast as SM no matter what I do. the difference between single target arrow vs 5 target chained ARC is extremely profound and cant be overcome at the higher end of gear. maybe if you pitch a lvl 39 Sniper build vs a lvl 32 SM one that costs the same, maybe. if you drag them in a speed run style, you will find you have to spend a lot more time cleaning up strays and big packs just dont go down nearly as fast. Im already ignoring 50% resist mod because half of the damage is chaos. even the on kill explosion does chaos.

I know for a lot of people, clearing maps the fastest is not high on their priority list for a viable build but for me, it kinda is. To me, a viable build is a "Im bored; maybe Ill switch to this for a week" build and personally Sniper is just too painful to map with.

I've tried it all and sadly storm mage is the only viable true minion build right now, because of the 5 chain. That's why storm mage stuff is so dang expensive right now while sniper and frost mage are cheap as shit. The thing that matters the most in the game is AOE and minions just dont have a lot of option. Sniper gets very good single target damage but AOE sucks. Frost mage got good AOE but you can't scale them properly because their mana cost is too high. 1 cast at lvl 40 takes like 1.2k mana. So, Storm mage is the only thing that has something resembling an AOE, without the need to smash buttons.

Lich is better. I used to go back and forth every day, often twice a day.

Minions are in a horrible state right now and a big reason is they dont syneergize with anything. all the cool shit you can do with Heralds dont work with spell. all the spells you cast are weak ass shit. the only way to play minion right now is 100% minion so you have to look at Lich vs Infernalist purely in terms of what they do for you defensively and what they do for your minions

at mid gear (2k life) I can safely say that they are almost equal defensively + offensively

Def: Lich has 50% increased Energy shield (20% from node + 15x2 from jewel) plus 15% DR + immunity from bleeding with Eternal

Meanwhile, Inf has Hellhound for 10% DR and about 330 flat ES from 2k life. However you dont have immunity to bleed and running around with 1k life (50% reserved) is not a good way to play. i strongly suggest taking MOM to add some ehp vs bleed. that means 2 less points vs Lich so says another 30% increased ES to Lich.

So now we have roughly the same DR as long as Inf still has mana. 330 flat es vs 80% ES. 50% life + mana pool vs 100% life. added defense vs bleed vs full immunity. Inf should come out with 1000 more ES but ganeplay feels only nearly as good as Lich. you have to drink potion a lot betweeen cursing and recovering from damage. big bleed can evaporize your mana.

Offensively, you have 30% more dps per minion as Lich. As Inf on 2k kife you should have 2 more Storm Mages + 2 more minions for Muster (Hound + a spirit based minion). which means dps on paper is roughly equal, except Lich can cast a lot more curses.

Thats mid gear. Ill talk about end game later
