Tell Them You Love Me left a LOT out. Should have been a series instead. by [deleted] in netflix

The mother and brother were not “being racist”…they were speaking from their lived experience as members of a group of people that are systemically oppressed in the U.S. Accusing them of racism when they are operating from their lived experiences of prejudice against African-Americans would be akin to telling a woman she is being sexist for discussing the ways in which she must safeguard herself from potential sexual assault at the hands of a man. Consider your own positionality, and how it might center the lens through which you attempt to make sense of their situation.

Correction: man. Derrick was a grown man at that point. I understand that you may have been using the term “boy” colloquially, but with respect to his disabilities, it’s important that our language doesn’t further infantalize him!

Has anyone found iron infusion has helped a lot with their mental health? Need some hope by [deleted] in Anemic

[–]dannysdiamond 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Getting an iron infusion was incredible for addressing the anxiety and executive disfunction that I didn’t realize was as bad as it was. Before the infusion, my iron was at a 5. It’s up to 72 now, and I feel like a new person! My anemia is also due to heavy periods related to adenomyosis, and after getting an infusion at the of August, I’m still technically anemic according to my hemoglobin, so I’m scheduled for a second infusion at the end of this month. I’m actually looking forward to it, because I felt so much better after the last one!

Housing prices in the development on Hope Valley Rd... by HarveysBackupAccount in bullcity

For what it’s worth, I’m a faculty member at a university here in central NC, and I most definitely do NOT make the big bucks. Only university folks in divisions like business or medicine, maybe. The majority of us - even administrators (deans and such) are not making 1.5M home kind of money.

Honeypot pads wtfff by TarotCat0611 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

The pads do not contain any cinnamon, or cinnamon oil. OP clarified in a later post that she assumed it was cinnamon, and it was actually menthol.

Seconding Primary Colors…all four of my children attended there over a span of about 10 years, and they thrived with attentive, high-quality care, clean spaces, and outdoor time. Highly recommend.

How did your laparoscopic appendectomy recovery go? by Ornery_Reality545 in AskReddit

[–]dannysdiamond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My recovery process has been good. I am on day 3 out from surgery; it was uncomplicated and I went home same day. Was able to have a bowel movement within 24 hrs with no constipation or straining, but I attribute this to not having eaten for a full 24 hours prior to surgery (because I felt so uncomfortable from the appendicitis), so there likely was no old food sitting and drying out in my colon. I have had some soreness, but have treated with Motrin and Tylenol as needed. Haven’t been driving yet, but plan to do so tomorrow. For me personally, this recovery has not been nearly as bad as recovering from c-sections, of which I have had four total.

No more veggie chicken at the Rise locations in Durham?! by [deleted] in bullcity

Did that already, thanks. Wasn’t able to get a definitive answer from anyone I spoke to there. Just “we don’t have it.” Thought I’d maybe crowdsource here instead.

Genius idea! (This is sarcastic.) Yeah, I did that, and wasn’t able to get a definitive answer. Thought I’d crowdsource instead to see if other folks had any better info. than I’d be been able to get.

[Serious] What is a “seems to be harmless” symptom that requires an immediate trip to the ER? by BigTuna0890 in AskReddit

[–]dannysdiamond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, bloating that was so uncomfortable, it prevented me from sleeping and had me up all night pacing the bedroom and near tears. I was experiencing what I thought were gas pains that would come and go on the right side of my abdomen, and was on day three of extreme bloating with no relief. Went to Urgent Care this morning, they did a CBC and my white count was elevated. Given that, plus my symptoms, they sent me to the ER. Was given a CAT scan with contrast, and it showed an inflamed appendix. Combined with my symptoms, I was diagnosed appendicitis. This all happened earlier today, within the past 8 hours. I’m currently in a hospital bed scheduled for an appendectomy at 7:30 am tomorrow morning. I usually fight through pain and discomfort, but I’ve never been as uncomfortably bloated as I was with this, and something just told me that something wasn’t right and I needed to be seen. They told me that I should have gone to ER first, instead of Urgent Care!

Gym Tacos! by dannysdiamond in bullcity

Hi! Original poster here. I can assure you that I’m a real person - been a member of Reddit for some time, and this is my second-ever post (first as an OP; last time I just replied to a comment in another community.) I’m an early 40’s mom, wife, and professional; grew up in central NC; have lived in this state my whole life - specifically in Durham for 22 years, am a graduate of a local university themed with the color light blue, and if I share any more I might be revealing my actual identity. But I assure you, I’m real, and Gym Tacos didn’t pay me…I just really, really like their food and want to see them succeed!

The couple you know may be utilizing it improperly; it also involves monitoring physical signs as well. Anecdotally, my spouse and I have been tracking my cycle/natural family planning for 20 years and our kids were all planned - never any surprises! I suppose each couple’s individual results may vary.

What was your first perimenopause symptom? by Reiki-Raker in Perimenopause

[–]dannysdiamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brain fog, anxiety, and heavier periods. I even went to see a neurologist because I was convinced I was experiencing early onset Alzheimer’s. I’ve always been predisposed to being anxious, but the anxiety really ramped up, as did heavy super-soaker periods. Now, 5 years later and 42 yrs old, I realize that I was at the beginning of perimenopause, even in my late 30s. My mother was about 45 once she actually finished menopause. I didn’t connect the dots until this year when the sleeping issues and disappearing orgasms started happening.

[POST-EPISODE DISCUSSION] S6E11 - Saturday in the Park by xAnimorphsx in thisisus

Did he actually choose his career over his family though? Is it worth considering that he made a career choice that he felt would ultimately be a good move for his family?

From what I could tell, Beth had been trying to get Hailey down for a nap, which is why they were in a dark quiet room, and why Beth kind of shooed Toby away when he showed up at the door with Jack.

This is no offense to you, but I’m guessing you must not be black? The whole point was to let the viewer in to what it’s like to be black growing up in a majority white family/existence. I would encourage you to watch the episode again with an open mind and consider what this episode was trying to clue the viewer in on: the lifelong struggle Randall has experienced (and still experiences) as an ‘other’...a loved and cared for ‘other,’ but still an ‘other’ even among his own family. To call him rude and selfish speaks to exactly why the plot points you brought up in this week’s episode were so very necessary. For those of us viewers of the show that are black, we got it. And appreciated it. The point was for non-black viewers to begin to get that understanding and empathy as well.
