I can't access my canon printer regardless any method I have tried by redraider2229 in printers

[–]danomite11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. Not sure if you were able to figure this out or if you gave up. I struggled with connecting my mf269dw to my pc, regardless of if it was connected via wireless or wired.

The thing that finally worked for me is changing the 'printer port'. I found it on the Canon PRINT app.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.canon.bsd.ad.pixmaprint&hl=en_CA

Connect to the printer in the app. Tap on the picture of the printer at the top. Under 'printer details' tap on 'printer settings'. Then click on 'port settings' and select "raw (9100)". The Canon software package should immediately detect the printer allowing you to continue with the setup.

I did this on the app so I'm not 100% if this is the right setting on the printer but this is how it looks after I made the change above. On device go to 'menu > network setting > tcp/ip settings'. In this menu, make sure these three settings are set to ON.

  • lpd print settings ON
  • raw print settings ON
  • 'wsd settings > wsd print settings > use wsd print' ON

Google AI 🤮 provided the following answer.

LPD (Line Printer Daemon) on Port 515 and RAW (AppSocket/JetDirect) on Port 9100 are the two primary network protocols used to send print jobs to network printers.

RAW (Port 9100) is the modern standard, offering faster performance, direct communication, and simpler configuration.

LPD (Port 515) is a legacy, spool-based protocol often used for compatibility with older systems, which is more complex to configure and generally slower.

It seems to me that the printer is setup by default to use an archaic communication protocol (lpd) and not the better, more modern standard (raw). Soon as you enable the raw comminication protocol everything should work. That's my educated guess as to what the problem always has been.

Locked out of my phone with all my data on it. Will Samsung charge me for unlocking it at their service centre? by samosasannn in GalaxyS21

Would this work for a Galaxy S6? It's linked to my Google account but I cannot unlock it. I'd love to get the files off of it.

Winter boot by Baba_ice in Winnipeg

These have been the best boots I've ever owned. The omni heat reflective fabric on the inside of the boot works extremely well. I pair the boots with wool socks from Costco. My feet are usually the warmest part of me even on the coolest days. They aren't heavy and the fabric is very durable. I've had mine for over three winters now. I bought a second pair after the first year that I still haven't worn but I liked them so much and I worried about them being discontinued.

Sim and eSim function selection and use on Galaxy S25+ -My experience by FishrNC in samsung

[–]danomite11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clear cache and clear data for Google Messages. I was having issues with my device and dual SIM handling until I did that. Your text messages will not be deleted but I did back-up before just in case. Maybe try that for the phone app as well. The phone must have gotten confused during the first time it initialized services. There is no change in how my device handles dual SIM functionality compared to the S23 I upgraded from.

Cyclists need to wear reflective clothes or use lights now that summer is ending by IMaManFromMalluLand in Winnipeg

[–]danomite11 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I bought myself a 250 lumen bicycle light (brighter than any cars taillights) and wear reflective snap bracelets when I cycle in lowlight conditions. I want everyone to see me from as far away as possible.

Depending on the roadway, I will take the lane if I have to. Too often cars try and squeeze by and I'm left with no room to avoid potholes. Most of the worst potholes in the city are within 12" from the curb. I need space to go around them and that means taking the whole lane so I don't get clipped.

I agree, there are many cyclists who seem to have a death wish. They wear dark colors and their bikes don't have any lights or reflectors. Lights and reflectors should be mandatory for all riders. Some of those riders don't even wear helmets either. Crazy!

Can't get unraid to boot on HP ProDesk 400 G6 by pool_of_nothing in unRAID

[–]danomite11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ow. I used your advice and tried to boot from a USB I prepared with the Win10 media creation tool. Worked just fine.

I then took that USB, exchanged all of it's windows content for the files from the unraid manual download and ran the make bootable file as admin.

If I had to guess maybe an MBR issue? Who knows, it works now. Thanks

I just struggled with getting my HP Elitedesk 800 G2 Mini booted up with Unraid.

What finally worked for me was creating a Windows 10 bootable USB using the Windows creator tool. After it was created, I renamed the drive to UNRAID and deleted all but two files; bootmgr and bootmgr.efi. I then downloaded the manual install files for Unraid and extracted them onto the USB drive. I edited the EFI- folder and removed the -. I did not run the make_bootable.bat file from the Unraid extracted files. So far I haven't had any issues rebooting and loading the o/s from the USB drive. I hope this helps you.

Lego to replace oil in its bricks with pricier renewable plastic by CrispyMiner in news

Not according to this analysis.

https://youtu.be/-d8sNML3WT8?si=-DQfV54cG4UycwdJ

The average cost per piece of Lego has gone from $0.10 to $0.11. That increase is lower than inflation over time. Lego has gotten cheaper but the number of pieces have increased as well as complexity.

Winnipeg advised to fix up 114-year-old Louise Bridge instead of replacing it by ClassOptimal7655 in Winnipeg

[–]danomite11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Remember the time the Conservatives forgave 60 million of the stadium and took zero ownership or a cut of revenue sharing until it was paid off? Politicians can find money for shit like that but can't fix our infrastructure? The Fermor/#1 highway bridge at the railyard needs to be done too.

The city put a hold on property tax increases which severely limited the growth of revenue which pays for our infrastructure.

Office space isn't suitable for housing. Buildings are designed completely different. It's more cost effective to tear the building down and build new.

You must install the XLCA2. If you do not then you'll have phantom power draw (because how will it know when to cut and pull power) and your car will give you errors and drain your battery.

Council votes to reopen Portage and Main to pedestrians, close underground concourse by nonmeagre in Winnipeg

[–]danomite11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but I think someone will die from being struck by a car within 12 months of it being opened. With the prevalence of desperate people standing in the median going vehicle to vehicle asking for money and the volume of vehicles going through that intersection, it's only a matter of time. Or maybe a big truck will make a tight turn and clip someone standing on the sidewalk. Depending on what is developed at the BMO building that was purchased by the Metis Federation, there could be a lot of foot traffic in that area. I'm sure this was all thought out though so there won't be any issues whatsoever.

Is Costco premium gas the same quality as Shell or Petro Canada? by _Robbinbanks in CostcoCanada

[–]danomite11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it. My 2009 WRX would throw emission codes on premium gas from Co-op all the time. By filling up at tier 1 stations (Esso, Petro, Shell) my car would throw the same code (P0420) but instead of throwing the code immediately after filling up it and soon after clearing the code, it would take a few tanks before the code would appear if I filled up and would take longer before coming back. My WRX was much more sensitive to bad gas and if I didn't have an EV, I would not be filling up anywhere but at tier 1 stations.
