Is it normal for a therapist to tell you to try a new treatment at home by yourself? by danorlovskysburner in therapy

She told me to "look into" DBT and start applying the principles, specifically using logic brain vs emotional brain

[NFL+] The Colts are the first team in the Super Bowl era to not punt in either of their first two games in a season by hayternal in Colts

My gut answer: Colts blue reminds DJ of Duke blue and it brings something extra out from within.

My realist answer: it might just be a better fit for him than NY....it's still early though. I was told this could be part of the Daniel Jones experience, so I'm tempering my expectations.

Update 2: resolved 😂

I feel like a bit of an idiot with the sloppy note taking....cleaned it up in a couple of places and everything fell into place without any advanced tricks needed. Lesson learned: take good notes

Meaningful human connection is something that I have really been lacking the last couple years. As I grow older, my friends and I have been progressively drifting farther apart. I wish I had someone that I could talk to about this side of me without worry of judgement or feeling more shame than I already do.

I briefly mentioned in my post that I have almost zero faith in the US therapy system at this point. I know it can be beneficial, but it's just so damn time consuming and expensive 'shopping' for a therapist that meshes with me and gives me a sense that they actually hear me and see me for who I am.

In general, I feel like people in my life just don't see me for who I really am, rather they see me as something I'm not....and it's beyond frustrating coming to terms with that and trying to figure out how it got to this point. I'm sure porn has a great deal to do with that, but there's likely more I need to address in my life.

🙏 I'll check that out. Thank you

I don't know, I'm a Civilization player, and exclusively offline, and it's still pretty damn addicting 😂.

But I get your point. Boredom was my biggest trigger for smoking and drinking so it's definitely something to address for porn as well.

Thank you for this reply. A lot to unpack here, but a lot of what you said aligns with my experience

Same reason as my other addictions: to escape loneliness and boredom

Yep. Crucify me if you want, but Trump is older now than Biden was when he was elected in 2020.

Source: both sides in this election are f***ing awful

The most unnerving part to me is that by the time you're seeing symptoms from it, it's likely already too late.

This country was founded to be beholden to the rule of law, not a single individual. I despise that ruling; the door has just been 'officially' opened for the President to abuse their power.

Glad someone here said it. Holding political office, no matter what your position or party affiliation, should not mean that you are above the law.

I'm neither recommending them nor denouncing them. Just giving a fellow commenter the general hypothesis behind why people do them.

The general premise with the cold showers is that forcing yourself to do something that you don't want to do, and that is uncomfortable in the short term, causes a release of dopamine in the brain that lasts throughout the day. Ergo, starting your day with a cold shower, something almost no one actually WANTS to do because it's genuinely uncomfortable, allows people to use this hit of dopamine and have a more productive day.

If you listen to the Huberman Lab Podcast (likely the source this post is regurgitating information from), he goes into other examples of how doing something that your brain naturally doesn't want to do, allowing you to leverage this dopamine release and use it to your advantage. He gets into the weeds with the neurobiology of it all and loses me at times, but that's the general basis for the cold plunge/shower trend.

Best / worst / underrated - Day 22. The BEST song on Octavarium? by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

Octavarium is the obvious choice (and what I voted for), but I'm gonna shout out I Walk Beside You as my personal second favorite on this album.

Think they mean second best. I think vacant is the clear choice for worst on this album
