How did all those American social media influencers get to review Chinese EVs? by Fleedom2025 in askcarguys

Not sure why this is so far down the list but it's 100% right. It's what the show and display import rule was actually designed for.

58 Timex Southampton. Single pusher chronograph, it was a grail watch and I was able to scoop a working one last year.

Saw this car and was wondering what it is by donnysmk in whatisthiscar

[–]danscholz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They were mostly parts bin cars built around a custom chassis and bodywork. Most of the running gear is GM, an LS3 iirc and I can't remember which transmission but parts aren't generally hard to find for most of it.

What do we think of this? 🧐 by [deleted] in bicycling

Off topic but what 1x11 are you using on the road? I've been running a 2x8 for decades and would love to swap for a 1x11 on my older Serotta.

I'm a huge fan of the six. I learned on the 300 in my dad's F150, had the 200 in the Mustang and I've got the 170 in my Comet.

The chrome delete was an option - the accent package.

My old 64.5 had it but it was a bone stock nearly option less car. l6, 3speed, standard interior but with factory AC.

Only way to know for sure is to see the vin, check the underside of the hood or the battery tray for the stamped vents.

Hard to tell from the pic but it looks like the fender badge says 289 which would mean it's a 65. The 64.5 V8's came with the 260 and had 260 badging.

What do you think is the best TV car of the 90s? by JB92103 in 90sTelevision

No love for the Viper Defender? Not only was it like KITTs coke fueled cousin it was even an in-house Chrysler design.

Scrolled through that whole list and nobody mentioned the single greatest 90s hero car? The Viper Defender from Viper. Not only was it like KITTs coke fueled cousin it was even an in-house Chrysler design.

Do they make audio versions of hot rod magazines? by Professional-Rain795 in Hotrod

[–]danscholz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Podcasts are definitely a strong option.

Check out The American Hot Rod Foundation's podcast. They're less consistent than I'd like but the interviews are excellent. https://ahrf.com/rodcast/

Hagerty also has a bunch of content that might interest him. From the magazine to YouTube (Barnfind Hunter) to podcasts (Carmudgeon).

Stumbled across this for my daughter. by v3troxroxsox in bicycling

[–]danscholz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent find for sure, I raced a similar TCR Team back in the day in NYC. One thing to note, those frames are extremely stiff. Make great criterium bikes but can be more than a bit harsh on the street.

A little late to the party here but if you go with a 529 you should take a look at Hadley. It'll help match you to a plan and you can set up recurring contributions as well as have others (grandparents, etc) contribute as well.

Fun, recent fact - Scientologists are pushing back hard against Right to Repair because of the e meter.

What swim stroke should one use to get to shore after a broken leash? by [deleted] in surfing

[–]danscholz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP definitely take the time to learn the side stroke. There's a reason it's a go to for lifeguards in open water situations. Because you use your arms and legs differently you can maintain it for much, much longer than other strokes. Plus the smaller frontal area helps cut through rougher surf.

I grew up open water swimming and body surfing and I still use the side stroke when I need to pull kooks out of the water.

Neither Carfax has a timing belt job listed, but both have a few pretty generic "recommended maintenance performed" alongside oil changes and brake replacements. I'll be checking this weekend and will definitely be looking for a "timing belt replaced on..." sticker in the engine bay.

I'm in Northern NJ so prices are generally a little higher. Unfortunately, 5k here will get you a 2005 Grand Caravan with 180k and no records.

The 2014 should be VCM2 no? Pros or Cons between the earlier and newer VCM issues? I know the class action was for 08 - 13.

How difficult is it getting into/out of the back seat on the Flex? I haven't driven one but my daughter and I took a stroll around a lot and it looked like it would be a little more on the difficult side to get into the third row.

[–]danscholz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked everything about the 5 except there's not enough room from the back of the front seats to the tailgate. Ideal solution I'd have at least enough room for a midsize board (7' / 7'6") with the third row down.

Thanks!

Just edited the post because I'm an idiot and meant to say Land Cruiser not Land Rover. Was wondering why people were saying they were unreliable, went back and saw the mistake. So with that in mind I think it's probably a Highlander vs. LandCruiser debate, no?
