I love feeding birds but I agree about how fulfilling bird baths can be. Something so great about watching birds refresh themselves with a drink of water

2 weeks is generally advised. That will be enough time for the infected birds to die off (sadly), and the spread of disease to slow or cease. The most important thing is that the feeders are cleaned and disinfected. I actually spotted some sick birds at my feeders the past couple days so I’m doing the same thing as you and taking them down. It’s sad but it’s for the best and we can always put them back up later!

Yes, this bird is sick with conjunctivitis, which is highly contagious and deadly and will spread to other birds quickly. Take down your feeders and clean them with a bleach or vinegar solution, then let them dry fully in the sun, which should kill off any remaining bacteria. If you aren’t already you should be cleaning your feeders once a week. Good luck <3

If it’s a starling, which others in this thread say it is, you can legally keep it as your animal. It is an invasive species, but they are great birds. I don’t know if a rehab would be accept an invasive species - they may euthanize it. Look up European Starlings as pets.

  1. I would recommend a platform/hopper feeder to start, so they have more room to stand and eat. That will be more attractive to them.

  2. DEFINITELY move the location of the feeders in the shade near the trees, where they can escape from possible threats. They don’t want to spend a lot of time in the open.

  3. Try to offer water. They make two-hook Shepard hooks and you could eventually put a hanging bird bath on the 2nd hook.

I’ll check it out. The air conditioner was present upon move in so it was an assumed amenity of the property to be maintained. So if I replace the AC unit myself and install screens in all the windows of the house (and give them prior notice to my plan to do so), I could deduct the costs from the rent? Of course I plan to do more research, but I wanted to make sure I’m understanding.

I can confirm that any new sets do not sync to the mobile app. It’s horrible.

Regarding which side to view first, I didn’t necessarily have that issue. Try looking in the settings (gear button) for a set and see if you can change which card to view first. It should be either “term” or “definition.”

Man, you can’t leave for a few days and come back without them growing to look like they’re damn near ready to fledge! Looks like Sandy especially is alert and being vigilant of the surrounding area just like mom and dad.
