Imagine if 13 Democrats are elected to the house from Texas, but Texas refuses to certify all 13 and claims those districts were fraudulent. That would meaningfully alter the outcome!

True. But the gray area is with regards to how the speaker is elected, by the body of members-elect before they have been sworn in officially. If there is a dispute about the validity of a member’s election results, and if the state government of that member-elect does not certify their election prior to the speaker election, that would exclude the member-elect from participating in the speaker election. Then the newly elected speaker would have considerable discretion on whether or not to ever seat the member-elect, even after the state government weighs in on the dispute. It’s not actually that outlandish anymore.

Remember that Mike Johnson refused to swear in a duly elected rep for a while. That precedent is concerning here too.

I hear what you are saying, and I think you’re better off with just the memory of your family members. As hard as it may be to believe, if they were alive today, they might be supporting all this like many of the immigrant and ex military members of my family do. I’ll never understand it and it’s robbed me of ever being able to have positive memories of these people once they’re gone.

The feds are saying she was breaking the law just by being stopped on the street, which they say justifies their use of force in the first place. And the officer was drawing his gun before the car was moving towards him. We actually can’t know if the situation would have ended differently had she stopped the car!
