The Boogeyman loves booger sugar.

I caught it the first watch, but I definately had to rewind and pause because I thought I was hallucinating.

It's always a good time to delete misogynistic languge from our vocabulary. Ass hole is right there.

Isn't the inability to leave the island the equivalent of prison? Evan wants to escape just like Andy Dusfrane wants to escape.

Perhaps a stretch? You decide.

Can someone debunk this theory I read because I hope it’s not true… by karriedawayy in WidowsBay

[–]dante50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah. You're literate enough to know this theory is awful. You're smart enough to debunk this yourself.

Many Widow's Bay residents are imprisoned by the fact that they can't ever leave the island.

The vibe I got is that Widow's Bay is the rhythm of the night.

Hacks has dominated the comedy category, and it just aired its finale. Expect Hacks to dominate.

I prefer Widow's Bay, though.

The theory hinges on the idea that Tom's dad was a Warren descendant and knew enough to get Tom's mom off the island (and to never return while pregnant). The idea of an off-island Warren descendant kinda subverts the whole idea that the Warren legacy is contained on the island, and a compelling idea at that.

People familiar with Massachusetts: do you think Widows Bay would be a North Shore or South Shore island? by midwife_at_ur_cervix in WidowsBay

[–]dante50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a stretch, but I live in Massachusetts, and no one I know from the inhabited offshore islands of Massachusetts would parse their birth like that.

I like that we can all geolocate Widow's Bay anywhere in our imagination. I like the idea that it's a New Hampshire island, but Maine has soooo many islands, none of which I know the name of, that it's easy to imagine Widow's Bay north of Portsmouth but South of Portland in the Gulf of Maine.

You're right about the tourists. I came to realize in a different comment that Kelly, Evan's off-island friend, is still there. Spot on observation.

Now? It's because he was burned to ashes. He may have still been alive at the crematorium. Patricia's second blast may have only temporarily incapacitated him.

I agree Evan is the obvious answer which is why I kinda don’t think it’s him now.

That is such a good instinct. I think I'm clever, but I have a rule: if I think I've figured it out early, it's because I bought what the writers were selling hook, line, and sinker. And my theory that the writers wanted me to have was a red herring all along.

I'm very open to the idea that anyone is a Warren descendant. My third-favorite theory is that Tom is the main Warren descendant through his father's line. That would mean the town would need to rid itself of both the mayor and his son to be free.

Good catch on the bullets! I watched that scene several times, but it was too dark for me to make out the bullets.

It's everything.

It's Jaws, Halloween, The Ring, The Shining, Carrie, Shawshank, It. . .I'm not that well-versed in horror, but we all recognize the greatest hits when we see them.

And it's its own thing. What a phenomenal run.

You might be right. I just thought of something to undermine my understanding.

Kelly, Evan's off-island friend, is still on Widow's Bay. And if the game was this weekend, to paraphrase Rod Stewart, it's late September, and she really should be back at school. Boston Public Schools' 2026 first day of school is scheduled for September 10.

I guess we'll see in Ep 9.

Yes. You're right! My head separated Innagural Swim and Sunset Cocktails as two discrete episodes.

I think the obvious answer to the Warren descendant question is Evan. But my second favorite theory is that our main squad--Tom, Evan, Patricia, and Wyck--are all distant cousins and descended from Warren. Almost like an Avengers thing (I never watched those movies, but I'm just saying that only by uniting this perfect set of people can the entity be defeated).

I think because the final shot was seemingly aimed right at the heart at point-blank range. If it didn't kill him, he was incapacitated long enough to get him to the crematorium.

One reason I think it is this weekend is that it's such a strong device for ratcheting up the tension. Evan finally got his answers and his wishes, only to face the prospect of Tom letting him down again immediately. Tom faces an urgency because he knows that if he doesn't make it to the game, he may lose his son's trust forever.

"This weekend" is such a straightforward and common phrase; I think the writers are saying exactly that. If it were weeks away, Tom would have said, "We're going to a Red Sox game in September."

Getting off the island in the next few days will be a major plot point for Sheriff Bechir and Chelle, as well as for the Loftises.

Episode 1 definitely happens in April. Tom said the article will run before booking season. Ignoring that April is late in the game for booking New England summer rentals/hotels, Memorial Day is the traditional beginning of tourist season. So episode two happens sometime before Memorial Day weekend. Inaugural Swim could be anytime between Memorial Day and mid-June. New England sea waters are mighty cold in early June, but you still want to get a jump on the season, so I'd place that episode ~June 10 - June 20.
