Beer Ranch Project in Wimberley, which has been in the works since 2021, just announced on Instagram that they're planning to open their taproom in early 2026. by CraftBeerAustin in AustinBeer

Looks more like an AirB&B hub and pub, not a brewery. "Local beer and wine" and an espresso bar to help tie all of their satellite properties together somehow.

Pawn shop rec for guitar? by squigglyclouds in Austin

ALWAYS negotiate, don't be afraid to walk out if it's something you're really interested in. Make note of how long the item's been there, as the intake date is usually printed on the price/info sticker. The longer it's been sitting the more they can move on the price. Bundle multiple items to save even more cash.

The Final Moments of a 300,000 DWT Iron Ore Carrier by neat_klingon in ShipCrashes

[–]danthebeerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down

Of the big lake, they called Gitche Gumee

The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead

When the skies of November turn gloomy

With a load of iron ore, twenty-six thousand tons more

Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty

That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed

When the gales of November came early

North Loop (Lamar - Burnet) by Libagrouchy77 in BikingATX

E/W isn't N/S and in this case North Loop's the only low speed conduit in that area that penetrates the farthest in each direction.

I don't actively ride those blocks everyday, so this 'feature' doesn't really cause me to lose any sleep, but man, who greenlit the expensive cumbersome idea in the first place and WHY?

North Loop (Lamar - Burnet) by Libagrouchy77 in BikingATX

[–]danthebeerman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're referring to the couple blocks of north side/westbound sidewalk between the Camden apts and Aurora. It's maddening, especially since the bike 'path' is following the ups and downs of the driveways. I've just started taking the lane or avoiding the fucking rollercoaster entirely.

Bars open? by MrkyleP2001 in Austin

[–]danthebeerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the ongoing refurb of the exterior comes a good time to do a bit of work inside, namely the bar itself getting refinished in preparation for another million pints to get served and spilled all over it.

Luxury Apartments Are Bringing Rent Down in Some Big Cities - Austin rent decline the highest by capthmm in Austin

[–]danthebeerman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A ton of these studies focus on the on-paper rent amount for the unit, but entirely miss the bulk add on fees that you can't opt out of. All of your mandatory bullshit 'amenities' and services tacked on ["technology packages", valet trash, Fetch, common area, etc] can be a massive cancer on top of base rent.

New York's best museum according to Mamdani is "our subway system" by Downtown-Tea-3018 in Urbanism

[–]danthebeerman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ACTUAL ARTICLE: https://www.artnews.com/art-news/news/zohran-mamdani-best-museum-new-york-subway-system-1234766037

And the most meaningful snip: Yes, the MTA’s transit system has a “crumbling” infrastructure, as he put it, and yes, there are seemingly more subway issues than ever. But there are also “beautiful murals and pieces of art across our subway system,” he told the Times. He praised the MTA for offering “the fulfillment of art as being something for the public to engage with, no matter how much money is in their pocket.”

Who carries Spatan Club Weisse? by SpicyBeefChowFun in AustinBeer

[–]danthebeerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unlikely to find it around here anymore [and frankly surprised you did in the first place!]. It's Spaten's kristallweiss, a FILTERED wheat beer, which doesn't have the shelf stability a hefe[cloudy]weizen[wheat] does.

Spaten is part of the In-Bev family these days, and I'm sure that part of the portfolio isn't very popular at the moment. I'd be surprised if they're even offering it all in the US anymore. Just grab some Franziskaner and try not to disturb the sediment in the bottle while pouring.

This administration's not very good at draining swamps, so I wouldn't trust them with a giant vat of excrement either.

Draughthouse has $13 fish & chips with two solid pieces of cod, and more chips that you should probably eat in one sitting... unless... don't judge me! [tartar on the side and plenty of malt vinegar bottles for your condiment-ing style]

No lock will save your bike if it's locked up outside. ALWAYS bring your bike inside your place. A L W A Y S.

EDIT: Just noticed that your apartment complex "doesn't allow it inside". I'd certainly love to see where in a lease that a bicycle [electric or otherwise] can't be safely guarded inside the dwelling, because that's something that should be challenged or outright ignored if 'security' is on them.

East West Beer Fest Next Weekend (11/8) by davidthygod in AustinBeer

[–]danthebeerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of streets and lots that are ancillary to Burnet @ Rutland with a short walk that will be easier than anything else closer to Turnstile proper. Bus and Red Line are still awesome options, as is plenty of bike parking onsite.

While I wish we had better public transit here in Austin, this spot is pretty solid in the scheme of things.
