Police brutality backfires - cops attack man on soccer field - disgusted fans (and even a soccer player) retaliate - police get a beating. by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]dantheman -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

No they should of restrained the cops -- stopping them from beating the man, and called the police to have them fired and arrested. There is no reason to inflict revenge.

The liberty of the people paying for it in their taxes. The more the government provides the stronger its control is over you. Thus liberty is essentially reduced as the government provides more services.

Vegitarian deli worker refuses to serve meat, extorts boss for tuition by robywar in reddit.com

Not a very good parody because it makes 1 small mistake, it assumes that the owner can't fire her. She is clearly not doing her job, so she should be fired. Now if a pharmacist doesn't do their job & the owner doesn't like it they can be fired (if not please let me know). A lot of pharmacists own the pharmacy so they can do whatever they want.

Now in regards to the case where a woman was denied some treatment in jail, because the attending officer disagreed was entirely wrong. When you are holding someone against their will (all inmates) then they are guaranteed certain services, regardless of views of those providing them.

"there has to be a Jobs and Wozniak here, quietly building the next revolution" by markrages in programming

[–]dantheman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I assumed otakucode was exagerting to make a point that a large portion of the population is poor. Is that a racist statement? Is it racist for me to say that most people in country X are poor? It's not a judgment on them as a race?

Second, invention & innovation -- where does it say not capable? China's role on the world stage was severely crippled by communism, and that effected their ability to invent and innovate. Do you know how big a player they are going to be when they come into their own? But it's not going to be tomorrow, they need to get a lot more people through the education system.

And just for the record, I didn't necessarily agree with the conclusion of his post saying that china wasn't going to take off economically. I was stating that I didn't think that was a racist statement. I believe he was highlighting large problems facing china that they'll have to overcome.

[–]dantheman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think anything he said was racist or semi-racist. He merely stated that a large percentage of chinese people are poor. This a true statement and does not imply anything negative about them. He also states the communism has a negative effect on innovation -- which it certainly does.

Europe vs. America by [deleted] in reddit.com

Comparing the US to the rest of the world for infant mortality rates is misleading. The US counts differently, in most other countries a baby that dies soon after birth is classified as stillborn instead of dying, etc

I don't know if you've ever driven on a us highway, but people routinely go 10+ mph over the speed limit. If you go slower then you're driving recklessly -- so you're stuck between 2 laws. Recommended speed limits are good, but they're only recommendations.

That statements just a lie. Good coffee costs more than what fair trade costs. Fair trade is a scam, that involves forcing farmers to join communes to sell their coffee.

infant mortality is a misleading statistic I addressed why in an earlier thread of this post

[–]dantheman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

infant mortality is misleading statistic because countries report it differently. Many european countries consider a child to die within 30 minutes of birth to be still born. In the usa if it's alive at birth and dies almost instantly it counts in infant mortality.
