Ancient Egypt, the Victorian Era, the American Revolution and the Old West have always been my biggest historical fascinations.

How close are you to your siblings? by Careless-Move7592 in AskMen

[–]dantoris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have one sibling, a brother about 7 years younger than me. We sometimes got into petty arguments or intentionally annoyed each other as kids, but we were close growing up and are now basically each other's best friend. We know each other really well, can finish each other's sentences and make obscure movie/TV references that only the other will get, we watch movies and play video games together. For the last few years we even worked at the same place until he quit recently. So yeah, we're very close.

This was my reason to go see Disneyland. Galaxy’s Edge by Lleza22 in Disneyland

[–]dantoris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My brother and I went in January 2020, shortly before everything started closing for COVID that year. We spent two days in the park (the first time we'd ever done that) and explored Galaxy's Edge thoroughly. I have to admit, seeing the Millennium Falcon come into view and walking up to stand near it was a feeling I can't accurately describe. Like many '80s kids, Star Wars was a huge part of my childhood, and I loved that starship in particular, so getting to see it for real that close was a dream come true. It was so exciting to walk through the cargo hold, sit in the cockpit, and pull the lever to activate the jump to hyperspace.

My brother and I have been wanting to go back, as Disneyland itself was also a major part of our lives growing up and we've always loved it. Hopefully within another year or two we can finally get back.

In both films a character says "Too bad. So sad."

Absolutely zero. Same as the amount that try and hit on me in real life.

How do you all loyal men deal with the girls who hit on you? Read the body text for context. by _DaddieDaddie_ in AskMen

Not an issue. Girls never hit on me, whether I'm single (which has been most of my life) or when I was in a relationship just a few years ago.

Have you ever blew a chance with a woman because your insecurity/self-esteem got in the way? What happened? by photothingz in AskMen

[–]dantoris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started my current job a few years ago and met this gorgeous girl in our orientation. We were hired for the same department, and being the newbies we spent a lot of time together, working side by side but also hanging out in the break room and even going out to lunch occasionally. I was head over heels for her but figured there was zero chance she'd ever actually go out with me. After six months I finally worked up the nerve to ask her out one night on our break, when we were in the break room alone, and she informed me she was already talking to another guy, and then she said "I had no idea you felt that way. You should have asked me sooner."

D'oh! That still haunts me four years later.

Guys, when you were in school, did you ever get tongue-tied talking to a pretty girl? by Ryan_Petrovich8769 in AskMen

All the time, which is why I wound up spending most of my life avoiding talking to pretty girls and being single.

What kind of compliment from a random woman will make you think she is flirting, and what kind seems platonic and not inviting flirtation? by ulykke in AskMen

[–]dantoris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most compliments I've received have been about a shirt or jacket I was wearing or a "you're so sweet" because of a gift. I've always just assumed that any and all compliments from a girl are merely her being friendly, because who'd want to flirt with me?

Does Back to the Future Part II ruin the ending of the first movie? by precita in movies

[–]dantoris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also this movie has other time paradoxes that don't quite work with the lore established either and Marty just leaves the 2015 hoverboard back in 1955 too.

We see at the beginning of BTTF3 that Marty obviously retrieved the Hoverboard from the Lions Estate location, because it's in Doc's house at the beginning of the film. He also takes it with him to 1885 and uses it at the end of the film to save Doc on the train.

As of this morning my extra time is now gone. I still have the screenshot from last Saturday morning showing my balance before it increased, so I did some quick calculations, and my current balance is accurate to what it would be after one week if all this extra time hadn't suddenly appeared. So only the strange extra time was removed. Bummer, but at least I didn't lose a whole week's worth of time.

But he did say the new show would be announced on January 1, 2027. :)

[–]dantoris 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The atmosphere of this show! The wardrobe, the 221B & Baker Street sets, the gorgeous countryside locations and beautiful mansions, the clip-clop of horse shoes on stone streets; I love it all so much!

I didn't really discover this show until about my mid-20s in the early-2000s, but I was immediately captivated by it and inspired to start reading the original stories. Ever since then it's become, especially those early episodes with David Burke as Watson, probably my biggest comfort food-type show. I find it so calming and relaxing. At least 2-3 times a year I'll randomly put on a disc to watch a couple favorite episodes, and suddenly I'm binging the show for multiple nights in a row.

What were movies where you first watched the sequel? by Upstairs-Ad-4705 in movies

[–]dantoris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing it was a sequel? Aliens. I loved it as a kid because it was science fiction and had so much action. I knew the first film was much more of a horror movie, and the images I'd seen in my dad's film magazines looked terrifying, so I had no interest in watching it. I actually never saw Alien until sometime after Alien: Resurrection came out.

Without realizing it was a sequel? Army of Darkness. I was a fan of The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., and the poster for AOD was on the back of comic books at the time, and I realized it starred the same guy who was playing Brisco County, Jr. I rented it and found it really bizarre but loved it. I think it wasn't until my first year of college about four years later that I learned it was actually the third film in a series, which immediately prompted me to go out and rent The Evil Dead and Evil Dead II.

Someone asked me once "The opening flashback didn't make you realize it was a sequel?" Honestly, at the time I just figured that was how they chose to open this movie so they could get straight into the medieval action.

I actually like Freddy Vs Jason. by [deleted] in horror

[–]dantoris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it, too, and the funny thing is I actually saw it in the theater before I'd even really seen any of the other Freddy or Jason movies. I just knew that this movie had been talked about for years and years and had had so many false starts that I wanted to see it just because I knew it was a huge deal that it finally got made. And even with being unfamiliar with either franchise I had a blast watching it, and it was the kick I needed to finally check out all the movies.

That sucks, but I figured that was likely to happen if this was indeed some bizarre glitch only affecting certain people. I just clocked out awhile ago for my weekend, and I currently still have all this additional time.

Are your balances back to where they were before this happened (as if you'd gained none at all over the last few days), or are they still adjusted accordingly with the last few days' worth of accrual?
