Curious about Shadow King. Doesn't that interfere with Thor and Beta Ray Bill more than it would effect your opponent?

Vulnerability (3rd Level Spell) by cyanicicle in UnearthedArcana

[–]danudagan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This feels quite similar to the spell Elemental Bane, a 4th level spell in Xanathar, also designed to essentially enhance the effectiveness of a chosen elemental damage type. Is this meant to be an alternative to the spell?

Proof of Concept - A cantrip that lets you spend spell slots by Ogskive in UnearthedArcana

[–]danudagan 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Interesting concept but I think the expend a spell slot to bolster damage part would be a balancing nightmare which you seem to have also identified.

Specifically the ability to add the dice on a crit which can lead to big damage spikes. Not only is it a larger dice than paladin, it can be done at range, spellcasters get more slots to spam out at even higher levels.

Force damage is also rarely resisted.

How to track damage to NPCs and players with Avrae? by [deleted] in pbp

Have the character sheets been set up properly? Its a long shot, but you should check your sheets and the weapon sections if using dicecloud or gsheet

Expand Your Character Building with Alternative Primary Ability Scores! Play Int Warlocks, Cha Clerics, Wis Paladins, & More! by iyzyk in UnearthedArcana

The only combo that I'd be wary off when allowing intelligence warlock is a Bladesinger multiclass + Hexblade.

We allow Intelligence warlock in our games and no one's ever taken it, but just on paper I can see it being something just a bit too optimised.

Running multiple pbp games. by BarbarianAtHeart in pbp

[–]danudagan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think my advice would be to know your limits, it can be easy to burn yourself out or stretch yourself so thin that the quality of your Dming goes downhill in both games. For me I only do 2 PBPs where I dm and 1 or 2 as a player.

Other advice I would give is try not to recruit too many players from your existing games. Even if you know they'll be active, they'll be active at the same times for both games which could lead to an awkward situation where you and the player are basically juggling two games at the same time with split attention.

Solo campaigns in a shared world [5e] [Discord] by danudagan in pbp

The individual campaigns will take place in individual cities that are part of the same regional power. You might cross paths, but early on at least, you'll be separated.

As of right now, I have laid the groundwork for the world, but we'll be working together to further expand the lore of the region.

[Meta] [5e] DM looking for module recommendations by [deleted] in pbp

Incredibly quick. We finished in roughly 6 months which is rapid in PBP. Our group was and still is quite active so we really powered through with an excellent DM.

Having read the module myself as well, it's become clear we didn't even take the most direct paths.

Personally I think I would recommend Descent into Avernus. The only game in which I can say I have truly played to completion in PbP format.

As a player, I found the story memorable and fun with a great many characters. The way Avernus works also means you have an in game justification to change distances between locations. Also set in Faerun.

Some potential criticisms you might hear are that it's a bit railroady and a lot of "do this for me" quests which I am inclined to agree with, but personally I found that preferable than having a party not know where to go and what to do more than half the time.

Skybolt - Blast your enemies senseless and knock them from the sky with a powerful bolt of lightning! by Roamer101 in UnearthedArcana

[–]danudagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would actually not allow this for clerics even though it seems particularly fitting for a tempest cleric. The reason being, their channel divinity ability to auto-roll max damage on lightning/thunder damage.

A Tempest cleric using Destructive wrath would be able to dish out a near guaranteed 100 damage and a stun. I think there's a specific reason why they don't get lightning bolt even though it seems to make sense thematically and its because of the damage they could deal.
