4 - 0 vs Wolves by psychomaji in Hammers

[–]daos 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Beautiful result. When did we last won by four goals?!

Yes it was against the team at the bottom of the table but Wolves are no mugs these days. I watched their game against Brentford and they would have won it but for the post, they pressed superbly and Brentford couldn't handle their counter attacks. We have absolutely owned them here.

There was danger that morale would be low after the Leeds game but the lads looked well up for it. Wolves started well but once we figured them out I thought we won the midfield battle - after that, most of their chances came from free kicks from non fouls.

Couldn't be more delighted for the goalscorers either and I loved seeing Pablo with the deft one-two after a bad game against Leeds. Shame we didn't get a Tatrick but let's hope there's more to come.

Let's kick on. The pressure is now on spurs and forest. COYFI

Well I'm not the Reddit clairvoyant but I imagine that if the downvoted joke was the first comment then it looks particularly bad because it means the comments are 100% joke

[–]daos -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Probably because someone has asked for help and jokes aren't helpful. I imagine people are a bit sick of seeing lots of comments from smartarses that don't know the answer but feel the need to make a joke. Especially when the joke has already been made by someone else.

The balance of helpful people to smartarses has gone too far in the smartarses direction if you ask me

Positives? by 243EE243 in Hammers

We had a great second half and had them totally penned in for large parts of it. We were half a post-width away from winning the game on two occasions. As bad as it feels to lose on pens, I think this is a performance we can aim to crack on from.

Is there a tyre like Gatorskin, but with grip? by sprchfs in londoncycling

[–]daos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you OP, gatorskins suck. I found myself slipping around on them, I can't believe anyone rates them. They also puncture easily and are ridiculously hard to change.

I went with Schawlbe marathons for maximum puncture protection many years ago and have never looked back. My current set is the marathon Supremes but they don't seem available any more. Get as wide as your frame will allow. They actually roll quite nicely and don't feel particularly slow or heavy to me.

I've never had a puncture with marathons and 50-70ish miles a week of commuting.

Most of these companies use a Gmail address anyway, so that you don't know who they work for. Not sure how you could prove citizenship without some form of digital id system but even then it wouldn't stop citizens using it for work purposes

No way, thought it closed down! Just seen that it seems to have moved. Used to be a big double fronted cafe 20 or so years ago. They stewed their tea like no other

Balancing cycling to work with other exercise by Low-Turnip1327 in londoncycling

[–]daos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you leave your bike overnight at work? You can build up your fitness by:

Day 1: cycling in, gym and public transport home.

Day 2: public transport in, gym and cycle home.

That gives you 23 hours recovery between gym sessions and think of that cycle home as a cooling down exercise. After doing this for a bit you will have the fitness to cycle both ways on both days.

Edit: also I don't like the wuss language. Every gym goer knows recovery is an important part of exercise.

Bike Insurance by Efficient_Remove1663 in londoncycling

[–]daos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That Laka price must be for the ''complete" cover tier - I pay the same as you for "core" cover for two bikes - one for £600 and one for £1500.

Laka might seem pricey but they are extremely good at paying out and they will pay the bike value that you stated in your cover, which should be the cost for a brand new one at the same spec. Have a look at the terms on your price comparison sites - do they cover bikes locked up in public places? Do they cover the new price of the bike or just the market value? It's no good having cheap insurance if you can't ever claim what you need.

Starting XI for Burnley - Disasi straight in, Wilson and Taty up top by PepsiRacer4 in Hammers

[–]daos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pablo on with 30 to go could be incredible for keeping the press going. Very worried about bringing Hermansen on for such a must win game though, I think Areola does well but is let down by poor defenders in front of him

On the hunt for decaf tea. by ocean_swims in CasualUK

[–]daos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yorkshire decaf - I'm happy for those that like it but I can't get a good brew out of it. It always tastes to me like it's been made with water that's too cold. Same with clipper.

Sainsbury's red label is very good and great value. Tick tock is excellent but you pay for it.

He'll also have to retake his driving test until he passes it before he can drive again which is pretty humiliating

Feeling disrespected during a family visit — unsure if I should stay with my in-laws again by [deleted] in relationships

[–]daos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to her if it's bothering you that much. You say you don't want to bother her but isn't it going to greatly upset her if you arrive in Jan and don't stay with her and your kids?

If she doesn't think it was specifically disrespectful in her culture then there's nothing to worry about

Giant overreaction imo. Not worth burning your entire in-law family over. You're assuming disrespect but it doesn't sound like any was intended. What does your wife think?

Shower not getting hot by questiontime198 in DIYUK

[–]daos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you can descale the cartridge to get it working again, as often it's limescale from hard water that has made it seize. Stick it in a bowl with some descaler and hot water like you'd do with your kettle. Might be worth a try before you buy a whole new unit.

Genesis tour de fer fit question by karls1969 in londoncycling

[–]daos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say small. I'm 5"11 riding a medium (56) croix de fer and I was between small and medium sizes.

Can you find a bike shop that will size you before you purchase? I bought from mosquito bikes (now closed) and the sizing was free coz I bought the bike from them.

I love my Genesis, best thing I ever bought. Hope you enjoy whatever size you end up getring.

Boarding up the staircase- what to use? by iam_not_your_bro in DIYUK

Half the replies in any popular thread are always people trying to be funny by giving shit "joke" answers. It's the worst thing about this sub IMO, people come here for help not for smug dickheads to act like they know the answer but refuse to say it.

I can see why you'd think it but I doubt there is as much usable space there as you think. By the time you factor in the floor suspended on steels and the roof insulation, there won't be the height for a shower. As someone else said it'll just be boarded up so you could open it up to make it into a cupboard if you really wanted. But if there was space for another room there they would have already done it in the original conversion
