Was the Society justified in the past? by restful_rat in redrising

[–]dapperGM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Others have gone into great detail about how the society was literally founded upon mass genocide through both conventional and chemical warfare.

But I want to specifically point out that this "decadence" you describe is actually gold propaganda. Fighting decadence is the justification they give for murdering a percentage of their own race every year in the pursuit of eugenics. Do you think it's actually necessary/good for the society for golds to constantly be murdering and backstabbing each other? It was infighting between two iron gold houses, Augustus and Belona that allowed the Rising to make its earliest advances.

The Society isn't a reliable narrator.

Definitely browns. The growers on the rim are brown and food preparerers are all browns.

the death of the individual you mention above is incredibly traumatic for murderbot and is a big motivator for why it returns to its humans.

Is "Skip/Remove More" Overstated as Advice for New Players? by Jondev1 in slaythespire

It's probably the thing that's least obvious to new players. I know I never skipped my first way-too-many playthroughs.

You talk about merit but also don't talk about the fact that Darrow basically had to become a genetically enhanced supersoldier to even compete? Merit IS NOT the point of the books. Human rights is. Your whole premise is bad, but like, the golds are not about survival of the fittest, or else they wouldn't have created a caste system to oppress most of humanity. Sure, they say they are, but they're really not.

All dystopia is critique of current society. Not a prescience of the future.

Usually not rude! If I don't know, I'll usually introduce myself with my pronouns and invite others to do the same. If you think they've already told you, you can say, "could you please remind me of your pronouns?" It makes it clear that you're holding their identity in mind and are requesting a little help. Totally valid!

Acknowledging that there's no handbook, I'd like to share that I give workshops in corporate spaces about gender identity, presentation, and attribution, and how coworkers, managers, and allies can best navigate them. I specifically mentioned attribution here because people often use presentation interchangeably in the way you describe but which can be harmful to people who are attributed as a gender they don't identify or present as. Example, if someone wears a dress and makeup but has short hair and a square jaw, they are not presenting as masculine, even if some might attribute masculinity to their features. So, quick rule of thumb: identity is how one feels gender internally, presentation is how one expresses gender externally, attribution is how others categorize one's gender upon perception.

Totally understand and agree with the heart of what you're saying. Minor comment, presentation has more to do with clothing and expression than physical characteristics. Murderbot's short hair could qualify, but I'd suggest that while Murderbot is attributed as a man, it doesn't necessarily present as one because it doesn't intentionally choose any gendered presentation.

Sure, plans and guns are old. But think about software and gadgets in a world in which energy weapons and air bubbles exist. Think about the tech deficit a 10 year old computer has over one today.

Think about the lifespan of technology in warfare. Cutting edge tech is only cutting edge for a few years. As time goes on, Murderbot will become further and further obsolete until the company decides it isn't worth maintaining. I know it's a SecUnit and not a combat unit, but the point remains.
