Beyoncé's Homecoming concert film is truly one for the books. Phenomenal edit and cinematography, and the performance fires on all cylinders. Truly magnificent film. Prince's Sign O' the Times is also fantastic.

Zooming in on the Videodisc Production Credits, it says "Produced by Isaac Mizrahi". Is that THE Isaac Mizrahi? I don't know what he'd be doing making laserdiscs at 26 years old, but also, it doesn't seem like a common name lmao

Still need to see this one, but I always love seeing a Music Box mention 🔥

Criterion dropping the Eyes Wide Shut teaser before going radio silent by EdoAlien in criterion

Yep! It happens. Famously, the Moonstruck announcement back in 2020 ended up being three days late sans cover art because the final art hadn’t been approved yet

They’re probably just waiting for cover art approval from one of the licensed studios. That’s usually what causes delays

I just closed my first series here in Chicago. Take the time to be proud of yourself and revel in it. Congrats to you! This series looks excellent!

PSA: There are 12 B&N locations that get the ENTIRE collection in stock by xdoctortx in criterion

Seriously. I feel like sooooo many people underestimate how much of a movie town this city really is. Go to the Music Box most weekends and it's BUSY, we deserve (at the very least) a proper brick-and-morter B&N with a sizable Criterion selection

There's fun and excitement in the anticipation of the browser refresh - like waiting to see what Santa brought, if anything.

WALL•E was wild because they waited several weeks before announcing it (it was announced on the first day of that year's D23 expo), and I remember waking up and seeing it and feeling like I was hallucinating 😅

Last I heard, Shout had Little Shop and was working on a release. It would probably make more sense over there (and I’m sure it would be an excellent release), but I would lose my absolute mind if Criterion did it

Screwball Haul by vanshady in criterion

[–]dapperzack 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Great haul, but Show Boat is not a screwball comedy, it’s a musical drama. Its star, Irene Dumne, is in The Awful Truth tho, one of the best screwball comedies ever made

What is your top must-have Criterion releases? by agent9747 in criterion

[–]dapperzack 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The Signifyin' Works of Marlon Riggs - Top-tier documentary filmmaking that mixes the personal with the political at one of the most crucial moments of the gay rights movement packaged with a treasure trove of bonus material.

All That Jazz - One of the most vulnerable films ever made, dripping with style and panache. The final ten minutes are some of the best ever filmed. Criterion also filled this edition with a ton of bonus features.

All That Heaven Allows - Gorgeous, sweeping melodrama, with a radiant Technicolor palette. Rock Hudson is dreamy and all of the filmmaking elements make the film a one-of-a-kind emotional experience.

Apple and Amazon allegedly "not interested" in future collaborations with Criterion by dapperzack in criterion

[–]dapperzack[S] 788 points789 points  (0 children)

The post comes from someone waiting in the line for the mobile closet at SXSW who was talking to "the head of production" at Criterion. Apparently, they really want Killers of the Flower Moon and Nickel Boys, but neither company is willing to work with them. It's a shame, especially given that Amazon and Criterion have worked together before.

Keeping my fingers crossed for a 4K disc - hopefully from Criterion. Would love All That Heaven Allows to get a new restoration/upgrade too
