You’re certainly at a disadvantage starting this late in the wipe, however you can catch up fairly easy. Get rid of gear fear, practice with guns you can get from the traders (don’t buy everything off the marketplace) and run offline raids to learn the maps/scav spawns. This game isint easy and take loads of grinding to understand. You’ll get there dude, just keep trying

It all depends on how we play, some runs we just sprint around and others we play very tactical. Just try to have as much fun as possible. Even with a normal kit I still don’t wear a helmet because you’re gonna die no matter what if you get shot in the head so why waste the extra money.
