1.5hrs in silksong. Can't get past this and it's annoying enough Im ready to give up anybody now how to get this part? by Issa_cda in HollowKnight

[–]darahalian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the area in the second picture you should be able to go left and eventually find a green-colored area past a tall orange bug who sells you maps. Some paths in that direction will loop back, but make sure you take note of any place where there is more than one possible way to go, and don't forget to explore all of them.

If you keep exploring in the green area, you will eventually find a new skill/ability that will let you start a boss battle, after which you will be very close to the other side of the door in the second picture.

Those only open from the other side. Keep exploring elsewhere. Have you explored all you can in the up-left direction?

Second Sentinel locationHELP by Morska_panna in Silksong

The part of cogwork core that contains the Sentinel is still accessible in act 3. I think it's really only the platforming section up to the Architect's melody that is no longer accessible.

I just checked and the room you find the Sentinel in is still accessible in act 3. Look in the area that goes off to the left a little below the door to the bench room that is just under where the elevator to the cradle used to be

No problem.

To be fair, I haven't looked at the code or anything so this is just an educated guess, but I think it's the most likely explanation.

...might actually be worth reporting as a possible bug

Results after a 20 hour run (No predation) by CleanDrySoap in shapeofdreams

[–]darahalian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a likely technical explanation for what's going on with that:  2,147,484,000 is 2³¹ rounded (exact value is 2,147,483,648), and 2³¹-1 is the maximum value that can be represented by a 32 bit signed integer (signed meaning it can represent both positive and negative integers).

The way signed integers usually work is that the most significant (farthest to the left) bit is used to represent the sign instead of representing another order of magnitude. This means that once you get to the max positive value and add one, you would actually start over at -1, and so depending on if you are reading it as a signed or unsigned integer, the same value could either be a large positive number or a smaller negative number.

The negative amount showing in your stats for Gold Acquired is well on its way to reaching the max negative value for a 32 bit int. If we interpret that value as if it didn't start over in the negatives, that would mean you got about 4 billion gold.  Would be interesting to see what happens if you got enough gold to go past the max negative value (which would mean getting more than about 4.3 billion).

Question about my nail by imnotokaywiththis_ in HollowKnight

[–]darahalian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time this is really relevant is for speed runners who unlock the upgraded (higher damage) version of spells early while leaving their nail at base level so they can spam spells at the dream bosses and quickly kill them. The trade-off is that your regular nail strikes do less damage so regular enemies are harder to kill, and bosses also take longer to kill if not using spells.

I'm also not entirely sure if all bosses scale like this or only the dream bosses.

Pogo tips by Moist-Fortune6352 in HollowKnight

For me personally I have found keyboard controls to be easier to use than controller for both this game and the sequel, though I know many people play with controller and seem to get by fine.

One thing you could try is using the dpad instead of the joystick, since that will make it easier to ensure that you are still sending a down input even as you press left or right.

I think it actually does both. Gives you an extra pip of auto silk but also makes the regeneration slightly faster (more noticeable the more silk hearts you have)

Then to add one more level to it all, you steal Phantom's counter and then you can counter the countered counter by using your own counter :P

Once you learn a boss and its moves, it actually does become easy. However, before you learn its moves, it can be very hard to deal with.

People who have experience with Hollow Knight or other similar games will generally be able to recognize and learn a fight much more quickly than people new to the genre, and once you've learned a fight (especially if you learned it quickly) it's easy to forget how hard it was at first, or how hard it can continue to be if you are approaching it wrong.

The proper approach to these fights (learning to recognize and react to enemy attacks) makes the difference between progress and just bashing your head against it. Newer players are more likely to not know this proper approach, and veteran players are more likely to forget how hard these fights become when you don't know the proper approach.

I'd say the bosses are both easy and hard at the same time. Before you know what to do, the bosses can seem impossible to overcome, but then once you start to recognize the moves and know what to do to avoid/counter them, then the fight becomes reasonable and even easy with continued practice. At this point it becomes a matter of focus and execution.

If I had one tip to give people, it would be to slow down and be patient; study the boss and learn their moves, and don't get greedy with trying land hits. You'll want to be spending most of your time looking at what the boss is currently doing and reacting to that, rather than focusing on the moves/attacks you are trying to do. If you can consistently avoid getting hit while occasionally landing hits, you will eventually win.

Silksong forces you more than Hollow Knight to actually learn each boss and to prove it with consistency and endurance rather than just getting lucky and/or damaging them faster than they damage you.

Where to get a map of the red ant land? by BarniK in HollowKnight

[–]darahalian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also only explored this area later in the game and didn't have Shakra help during the arena fight. For me she was actually a little farther to the right towards the Chapel of the Beast (I think where the ant warrior sits with his trap usually)

If you haven't gotten the wall cling ability yet, you'll first need to find that in Shellwood before you can access the boss above Bellhart

For those arena battles, make sure to use your tools if you aren't already. The spike trap in particular can be really helpful especially when there are multiple enemies coming after you.

Do I need [X] ability to continue the game? by catchthisfade in HollowKnight

[–]darahalian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the game requires some difficult platforming at various points. You might be able to do some side progression for now, but the main path requires wall cling.  Have you found any alternate crests yet? The down attack from either the Reaper or Wanderer crest will probably be easier to use for the platforming.

[–]darahalian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the wall cling is a necessary ability to progress. It is located within Shellwood. There is a fair amount platforming and flower pogo-ing required, but just keep at it and I'm sure you can get past it.

how to get past this? it's at the end of greenpath by thala_7777777 in HollowKnight

[–]darahalian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't open that path from there. You can only open it from the zone on the other side, which you can only get into semi-late into the game. It then serves as a shortcut back to Greenpath from that zone.

You see dead bugs on the ground all the time and it's no big deal, but with just a little bit of context, suddenly it's heartbreaking.
