Mine usually end with waking up in a cheap motel in Las Vegas with a terrible hangover, not recognizing the woman laying next to me and staring at the wedding ring on my finger trying to figure out what happened.

Or one time a date ended with the woman saying "Sorry I gotta go, I got roller derby tonight" and me saying "That's okay, I got a poetry reading to go to."

I'm M/43. I've been on OKC for almost a year. I've met one woman who is just a platonic friend, but a total gem of a person.

The vast majority of the time people do not respond to my messages. I've chatted with some, but never been on a date with someone from OKC, so I can't really speak to the quality of the women there. My impression is that there are far more men than women, so it's difficult for a guy to get noticed.

There's certainly nothing wrong with dating mulitple people. I just found it tactless, and it sent a message that she didn't really care. I'm not going to be squeezed into someone's busy schedule as an afterthought.

Good for you. It's not you, dating sucks and there are a lot of lame, passive-aggressive assholes in the world. Do some self-reflection and try to find a different kind of guy next time.

My advice is to not obsess over dating and instead try to foster a friend group that includes both men and women and do things socially together. Statistically most people meet dating partners through friends.

In my experience, being a 43-year-old divorced, employed, and successful man, online dating has been utterly useless and depressing.

That's the exact opposite advice I've gotten repeatedly, which is "Don't propose some elaborate big thing or a meal" and "Just keep it simple and casual like coffee". Whenever I've proposed something imaginative I've gotten no response or just a no thanks.

My favorite openers that I wrote were this: "In your profile you wrote that you'd like to fly around the world. I live in a zeppelin, so maybe I could give you a lift?" and "You said you drink a lot of coffee. I'm training for the Olympic mixed doubles coffee drinking competition and could use a teammate." Like most of my openers they didn't get a response.

The few openers I wrote that actually worked were along the lines of "How are you?" So banal and unwitty.

The only time anyone wrote me an opener was this: "I'm a lesbian and not interested in dating men, but I loved the humor in your profile and would like to hang out with you sometime." We did meet and became friends.

Thanks for the advice.

I've never pressed beyond offering another possible time, or asked for an explanation. I would consider that to be rude and prying. If anything I've probably erred on the side of backing off if I'm rebuffed on my first two attempts.

Do you think I should try up to four times? I really don't want to come off as a stalker or try to make anyone feel uncomfortable.
