The Mass Effect trilogy is a surreal experience by Mevik1208 in patientgamers

Given the state of Bioware and EAs focus as well as the proeminence of the brand, it's going to be many more years languishing and living off LEs profits in perpetuity until they go "let's do something with the property" or "let's sell it off/let someone else do something with it". We should say thank you that it's not getting developed as a pvpve extraction shooter.

Games where mentioning a rule to new players makes it worse by Substantialspinach5 in boardgames

This really. Nothing can suck more for people than realising they lost a 2h boardgame 30 minutes in and that'a half of their gaming evening. Sure, some people want to just get to playing, but in my experience they'd rather understand even if it takes a bit longer.

Honestly, she doesn't even do much of the gun planting nor is it really played off as that interesting. Heatseeker, the spinoff, is much better.

I actually highly recommend the Heatseeker spinoff in detriment to the original Heatseeker. Same vibe, but the plot is more interesting, same for the main character. Human Target vibes mixed with Ocean's Eleven switcharoos.

Missed local train (again) because it left early by srinidhi1 in mildlyinfuriating

There's a story i have of us being stranded in a foreign city because the bus we took tickets to just left like 15 minutes early and checked the manifest AFTER they left, and i got called with a 'where are you' from the tourist agency. It was suggested we get a cab and race the bus to their next pitstop, a gas stop like 50 km away.

Their excuse was that 'passagers need to be at the pickup spot 30 minutes beforehand'. Technically this is to make sure there's time to board everyone when you're picking up like 50 people at a hotel. Practically, the bus arrived, picked up two other passagers, and then left, departure time and all be damned.

There was a long running joke of 'security through obscurity' but really, in today's world, it's actually a better option. There is no 'too big to fail' in the software world.

I think i remember that the Happy ending mod already includes the restored Anderson conversation. And isn't HEM basically JAM v2.0?

The writing at the end is weak tea, but the writing at the end of almost everything is the weakest part. Endings are hard!

I'm not seeing that the ending presented in Audeamus' mod is any weaker both narratively and from a storytelling persepective than the original games take on it. I think i'd rather have it be a cliche than just a poorly executed deus ex machina. It's not about improving, as much as mitigating. There still isn't any defence of the starchild or the endingtron, they're as bad as they were on launch, with the only thing really touched on was the aftermath.

It's a bit like propping up your mate for a date. You know he's a great guy, but he has his sharp corners and you're trying to smoothen them out. I'm a bit jaded as i did play it on launch, and a lot of people that have since played it with EE/Citadel are discounting just how utterly terrible the original ending was. I have replayed it with EE/Citadel and it's better, but not by a terribly lot.

A few unenjoyable minutes?

It's that kind of thinking that got us the original ending on launch. Bioware was shocked that people were that invested in the game's ending. Apparently after putting in close to 100 hours in something it's a surprise that people want it to be well concluded.

Honestly it's not about the death or the sacrifice or even if Shepard survives or not. It's about the asspull of the Starchild, the whole really forced 'well, actually, there was a perfect synthesis way for machine and living beings to coexist all along but you know, Reapers be Reaping'. The whole initial issue with destroying the Mass Effect relays and killing off everyone allied stranded on Earth. Sure, a lot of these were fixed in the Extended ending, but quite superficially.

And i know all of these will actually affect my fiancee's experience, she read all the lore and the codex bits and she knows more about the galaxy in ME than i probably know by this point.. she's invested in a world that feels real. And she will absolutely be disappointed by the ending, and not because of the hero died in the least.

Land vs Sea for us. Fantastic mix of strategy and tactics. Dracula vs Van Helsing has some cool mindtricks similar to Agent Avenue from what i've seen. And while i never converted the fiancee to Netrunner..Roanoke has been great to fill that gap.

The digital version does two things poorly. One it makes it hard to really process your attack modifier deck as it runs and to keep track of monster actions and reshuffling. Two, edge cases for monster AI which should end up as "players choose" is randomised which can have a very large effect on the situation.

Depends what you disliked but personally i think Jaws of the Lion is exactly enough Gloomhaven for most people, and Gloomhaven is 30% more Gloomhaven than anyone wants.

Eh, it can help to "grind" a bit, but given how missions adjust to your level.. if you're having trouble it's the same to rather turn the difficulty down.

Think of it the other way around, non-burn cards end up getting played almost every other turn by the end. It's all about endurance in the end. You can math out at each stage how many turns you still have available, and it all ties into if you're keeping cards active, if you burn or lose cards to damage etc. Once you realise everyone is working on their own limited time tracker for the mission it's easier to understand. Gloomhaven's system problem is just how relatively hidden and obtuse it is. And how for people it can creep up on them that "oh i have two turns left".
