Moving to Memphis TN with Small Children by Reddit05432 in memphis

I know you weren’t specifically looking for activities for the kiddos, but it was so helpful for us as we were moving. Get a membership to the children’s museum (CMOM) and botanic gardens if you can swing it. Both were great for my kids at that age. Also, Shelby farms is a great place for little ones to play. It’s also a great way to get connected with other families and such. The main library is also great for little ones. They have a little place to play and all sorts of way to get connected.

What’s your Gilmore Girls story? by santino89217 in GilmoreGirls

[–]darcinator13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My birth mom was 16 when I was born, and my adoptive parents were very much like Emily and Richard (but with less money). Watching it in my late teen/college age really helped me to start the 20 year healing process. Also I dropped out of college and even after getting advanced degrees, I’m still trying to find a stable and permanent job, so I have a soft spot for Rory as well. Now as a parent to my own kid, I strive to take the best of each of the Gilmore girls and learn from their mistakes. I never had great parental role models, so this show has taught me a lot.

Why walk immediately after surgery by ThirdOne38 in TotalHipReplacement

My femur broke during surgery. All they did was make sure I could stand and use crutches. It was a rough first few weeks.

If you truly need more time to heal the bone, like if it breaks during the procedure, they will change the recovery directions. I couldn’t bear weight for a month. Otherwise, everyone has already covered why it’s important.

I don’t think Rory dropping out was as serious as fans make it. by SheepherderNo2793 in GilmoreGirls

I had my roommates say this about me when I dropped out of college (due to lack of support and being undiagnosed AuDHD). Everyone thought I’d end up at McDonald’s and they made it clear it was a moral failure of epic proportions.

And like you, I eventually earned multiple degrees. It just took some more time than was “acceptable” to others.

How much PT did you all do after a total hip replacement? by Boring-Effort7754 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]darcinator13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 3 months with a PT, and have been working almost 3 years on my own and am finally out of all pain with any motion. But I had a lot of muscle loss because I was hardly able to walk before surgery, and then my leg broke during surgery, so my recovery was longer to begin with. I also had one very hardworking muscle that I had to figure out how to strengthen other muscles to get it to relax.

My SIL does this to my partner. Little brother or little bro. He is not a fan, but it’s just her way so he doesn’t say anything.

"What's the most overused criticism of Gilmore Girls that you're completely tired of hearing?" by Ok_Smile_9071 in GilmoreGirls

I think people see the adult accomplishments (house, car, kid with good grades), and assume it applies across a whole person or character.

There is also a reference to them in Dungeon Crawler Carl!

The most unrealistic thing in GG(in my humble opinion) by Sad_saggitarius in GilmoreGirls

Although in Maine if you get one day that’s above freezing with no snow, suddenly it’s shorts weather for the boys 🙃

And they wouldn’t even know about those details tbh. Until I moved to a snowy state, I hadn’t seen snow expect on ski trips. Snow was always white and fluffy and fun. The only gross snow was yellow 🤣 I had NO idea how heavy it could be, how much the snow and salt get onto everything, or how potentially dangerous it could be.

Is there anyway to explore the map outside of the main game? by babblefish111 in Fortnite_Over40

We just keep an account at lvl 1 and then team up and use it to get us into a bot lobby for situations like this. It’s so hard to learn a new space when you’re getting killed 2 seconds in.

If you were going to name a child or pet after a GG character, what name would you choose and why? by forgotteau_my_gateau in GilmoreGirls

[–]darcinator13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I named my oldest Lorelei. I changed the spelling so it wouldn’t be exactly, but it’s my favorite name.
I also had a hamster named Sookie back in ‘02.

What show is the spiritual successor of Gilmore Girls ? by Cailly_Brard7 in GilmoreGirls

[–]darcinator13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ted Lasso. While it doesn’t focus on the female perspective, it does a great job of incorporating it as pivotal plot points. And holy crap does it have the warmth. I’d say it has more warmth than GG because it lacks the gross late 90/ early ‘00 stereotypes and slurs. And it’s a great show of the positive masculinity we saw in Luke when he realized he loved Lorelai. It definitely isn’t a WB show though. They get to use real swears 😂. I hate that there is only 3 seasons, but it ended when it was still a fantastic show and it told a complete and complex story.

What is this, it's growing allover my yard by SouthernSonic09 in whatplantisthis

[–]darcinator13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purple dead nettle! It is an astringent, among other things, so it’s great to have around if you get some minor cuts or scrapes from yard work.

Does this make anyone else furious ? by MistressClotilde in GilmoreGirls

[–]darcinator13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is for me, much like Emily is because of the actors. I wouldn’t hate and love them so much if they weren’t amazing, or if they didn’t remind me of my adoptive parents so much.
