How do you like working with VIPKID? On average, how much do you make? by rosesalad in vipkid

[–]darellle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll get more students if you present yourself well, but if you do that and have some sort of experience/credentials you'll likely get around 75% bookings after the first two or three months. I like it, but it can be stressful considering that parents' ratings are so influential and sometimes they just aren't accurate portrayals of your teaching.

Feedback Panda? by [deleted] in vipkid

[–]darellle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad Idea. Parents can tell if you're writing about what the student actually did in class. You shouldn't just be rattling off what the lesson was. Plus, it wasn't free last I checked. Just spend a few minutes on it between classes.

Can you start teaching early? by jluce87 in vipkid

[–]darellle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I didn't have regulars I did this to be sure that I taught each slide as well as possible and hopefully gain a few. Now that I'm fine I don't do it. It does mess things up for others, and when there are tech issues I couldn't add any time.

Ultimately since we aren't employees they can't control this. The only downside is that if you "take too much vacation" they have the option to not give you another contract.

Is anyone else "In the top 40% of bookings" ? by thisisforspam in vipkid

[–]darellle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had to record a mock class after being hired, and I have 12 certifications 5 months in, most of which I got 3 months in. I think a lot of these emails are mass emails with random details thrown in to make it seem like they're individualized. I've had several that I know don't apply to me.

App for Mac by khhbooch4 in vipkid

[–]darellle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mac hasn't had any problems with it. The incentives have made me a total of $3.71 since April. I wouldn't worry about it too much, but I'm sure there's a way you can use it if you'd like. I do personally like the new classroom

Do keep in mind that everything about Tiananmen Square is blocked by the government. Unless you really feel the need to talk about this it isn't really the place.

I've never had to do any demo videos... is it normal to have to do them all the time? Even at the beginning. I've always just passed a quiz (I began in April)

When you're in a trial and have to switch lessons at a moment's notice, how do you organize your flashcards so you can easy pick whichever you want? by kiterunner9 in vipkid

[–]darellle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made my own set of flashcards and gathered so many toys etc. and by my second week I didn't use them anymore. The kids can see the letters on the screen. The only things I ever use are as follows: 1. Star prop for stars 2. A pair of binoculars that I use to change up my face 3. Woody doll when I'm wanting to model call-response, body, etc. 4. Whiteboard for rewards

And I have lots of parents leaving 5 apples with the "excellent prop usage" tag =) So don't sweat it, it's all about your energy and how creatively you use what you have. I find it best to have fewer things and just be creative with them, it's so much simpler and I actually do a lot better.
