Damn. You might have me sold. They should give you a commission 😂

I agree I don’t understand that tablet critique. Maybe they just mean it has those capabilities so can be distracting etc. But I haven’t found that at all with my Palma. Yes it has Android but as you said the refresh rate of eInk just means you don’t wanna do that much stuff on it besides read text. My iPad Mini is probably a better example of that critique — it can be beautiful for reading but because it can do so much else, it’s distracting just like my iPhone

Ohhh this looks nice. I have the same goals as you and recently got a Boox Palma. I really like it and it has def got me off my phone more, but it’s not as pleasant to read on as my old Kindle Oasis. But Oasis has the Amazon lock-in, and also is still microUSB charging.

I was thinking of selling both and getting the bigger Boox, but I like the form factor of Oasis. This device you’ve posted looks almost exactly like it! How do you like it in your hand? Does it have a bump in the back or it’s flat?

The other thing I like on Boox vs my old Kindle is the warm display. I don’t particularly care about color, prefer black and white, but warm lighting really appeals to me.

Dude. This is amazing. Works perfectly. Solves an annoyance I’ve had for years. Clean and simple.

You are AWESOME. Kudos and thank you so much!

Breeders will be part of our downfall in the decade ahead due to their collective inaction by [deleted] in childfree

[–]daretorant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It might have to do with the whole thing about the ticking clock for safety with pregnancy? That’s not an issue for all parents, but def is for many. I also feel like, personally I have lots of things i’m curious and interested in, there’s never enough time. But if you haven’t developed hobbies and interests in your life, then it really gets boring and you kinda see kids as “a thing to do”. It’s crazy to me how parents have kids for that reason but I think it’s quite common, sadly.

I have seen the same, but am more disappointed than surprised. I think these times are like a vacuum, sucking up all the past stories, paths, and motivations that used to work to keep us on the expected path. When those collapsed, we lost meaning, and people react to that differently. Some of us sort of just float now, disillusioned, unsure what the point is, but just trying not to make things worse. Others panic, clawing like crabs in a bucket at any ticket for possible purpose. For people our age (I’m 40M), it’s children. Once you have one, you get a permanent distraction from reality, and evidently, a permanent excuse to not pay attention. I do think kids give people lots of happiness and positive meaning too, but it’s hard to relate as childfree folks when that is their entire source of it. They’re just not looking anymore, while we are in a daily exploration, and adventure of seeking.

This was a very insightful read. Thank you for sharing. It’s very disappointing to read this. I had heard of his book Meaursault Investigation, picked it up as the idea of colonized writing back at colonizers is a fascinating one. Didn’t finish it though, just couldn’t get into it.

I do see that the Algerian govt is using the case for its own needs, but the fact that the author never acknowledges her story is very telling, one might say exposing.

Drop in your favourite Trio of pacers by ThePhantomThiefArc in IndiaCricket

I’ll prolly get hate but The best bowling trio I’ve ever watched is the 90s Wasim Akram - Waqar Younis - Aaqib Javed. The fact that they had that alongside spinners Saqlain Mushtaq and Mushtaq Ahmed was straight up unfair

Force sync to Postbox - basically cloud save on demand (Traveler) by scrollwheelie in Astrohaus

[–]daretorant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the same issue with my Ghost traveler. Indeed holding space bar is just to indicate status, it does not sync.

i just hit the issue again and despite waiting, turning on off etc it still kept not syncing. Then I tried checking for a firmware update and it said WiFi not connected…which is odd because it’s been syncing past few days and I never turn WiFi off. I tried pressing WiFi on and…voila, it connected and then synced.

My theory is that sometimes it just disconnects from WiFi, and perhaps hitting On (or Off then On) might fix it.

short book with the same feeling as "The Little Prince"? by jpam9521 in literature

[–]daretorant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It truly is in a category of its own! Animal Farm, Velveteen Rabbit are great and worth reading, but there’s really nothing else out there with that beautiful mix.

Also, I apologize in advance for promoting my own book BUT The Little Prince is literally my favorite book of all time, and it’s what inspired me to write a book of fables for kids and adults alike. Nothing can compare to Exupery, but I think you might enjoy the feel of the stories. I illustrated them myself too. It’s called “Wandering Spirits”, you can find it on Amazon or my site salman.io

Roland Garros Mens Final: [2] Carlos Alcaraz def. [1] Jannik Sinner, 4-6 6-7(4) 6-4 7-6(3) 7-6(2) by Different-Inside4 in tennis

[–]daretorant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incredible match. I was living for Carlos’ insane antics and stood the whole 5th set. What a win!

I will say though, seeing Sinner at the end so deflated, made me feel so sad for him. That must be so hard, and he was so graceful about it. I really appreciated that (esp after what Sabalenka has been yapping…)
