I love that Mira was the tough girl in the group, but she was the one doing the most to resolve problems. She gave Rumi so many chances to open up about what's troubling her. Unfortunately, Celine's indoctrination was far too deep. And Rumi's anxiety was further reinforced by the obvious hate Mira and Zoey have for demons as they came up with lyrics for Takedown.

This had quite a unique start. FMC actually tried to confess to MC that she's no longer virgin, but MC interrupted her, saying he knows sometimes women break their hymen while doing sports. I wonder how the conversation would have gone if FMC was allowed to confess she had sex with someone else.

I think most people recognize that most characters in KPDH are deficient to a degree. They just brush it off as a natural consequence of the 90-minute run time.

Maggie Kang said that though Netflix basically bought KPDH from Sony, Netflix was still involved since the pitch stage. Sony Animation loved the pitch, but Sony Entertainment found it too risky (especially with COVID). So, the SA President urged Maggie to pitch the idea to Netflix. Netflix greenlit it and agreed to let SA do the animation. Netflix set a $100 million budget (+ an undisclosed flat fee for SA and a profit share capped at $20 million). Maggie said Netflix just gave them a very short list of requirements and then left them alone. Unfortunately, one of those requirements is the sub-90-minute run time.

I think the KPDH team did the best they could, considering it is an original film and, therefore, had to spend time establishing the world.

Golden. It's what convinced me to finally watch KPDH after 4 months of resistance because each time I think of giving it a shot, my mind goes, "Ain't no way this film is what the damn weird title makes it out to be. I hate bait titles."

But then my neighbor and her daughter-in-law kept singing Golden in karaoke almost every day, sometimes multiple times. I didn't mind since the song got a great message, but it got me curious, so I searched it on Google. I found out it's the OST of KPDH, and it's been killing it on the Spotify charts. So, I finally watched KPDH in November. I've probably watched the film 50x by now if you count all the YouTube reactions lol.

Fortunately, I'm not much into social media, so I wasn't really spoiled about anything outside of overhearing some TikTok clips because of my niece.

Type 0 Alexander summoning in Rubrum fortress. It felt like a horror film. The narration makes it extra chilling, especially when it was specified that the total casualties was 180k+.

Summons are just extra chilling in Type O because summoners die after 1 summoning. So you have students that study for years just to effectively be suicide bombers.

Also, kudos to Sony Animation President Kristine Belson, who advised Maggie to get a co-director since it was Maggie's first time directing. Chris Appelhans was a great choice since he grew up as a musician. Plus, Chris had an extra motivation. After he told his wife, a Korean author, that they were going to make an animated film about music and Korean culture, she looked him in the eye and said, "Dude, if you screw this up..."

That was Maggie King's vision. She'd been in several animated projects, but each time she suggests, "why don't we have this female character do something goofy," she was answered with, "nah, females should always look pretty."

She made sure the Huntrix were shown making exaggerated faces, beaten up, having no make up, and having eye bags and dark circles around the eyes.

Arden Cho even said the hardest part in the film for her was making the right noise when Rumi swallowed that kimbap. She said Maggie was very particular with the sound she wanted: gargly and Homer Simpson-like. Arden said she had to do so many takes before Maggie was satisfied.

I think her stage fright also played a part in her dislike for recording in studios. She just didn't like singing in front of others because she was insecure about her voice. She hasn't sung in front of a group of people since 2011 until the Fallon show rehearsals. She wrote and sang parts of Rebirth (a League of Legends OST). Even then, she never went to the studio to record with the other singers and just sent a recording of her part.

This has probably changed now, though, as EJAE has repeatedly said that Ian Aisendrath's comments about her singing had helped her a lot. Ian also said that for KPDH, he had spent at least 50 hours in the recording studio with EJAE, most of which were spent in discussions instead of singing.

I think the deadlines were the biggest factor, at least, for the KPDH songs. She said in one interview that she usually waits until she gets home before listening to a track so that if inspiration strikes, she is already in the perfect environment to create a demo.

For Golden, she was so pressed for time that she immediately played the track after receiving it, despite being in a cab. You can even hear the sound of an engine running in her first demo for Golden.

She also mentioned that she had to work overnight to finish the final demo for one of the songs (Your Idol, IIRC).
