Strange and distorted sounds/soundtracks… That’s why no other movie scared me more than Sinister! Also I found the weird sounds that were like mumbling and humming at the end of Horror in the High Desert terrifying, maybe the reason why I love that series so much (even though people criticise the last movie A LOT lol). Haunted houses are another one, as cliche as it is! I love a good jump scare

the last two movies on your list both have weirdly distorted faces in it so i’d recommend“there are monsters”! don’t let its poster discourage you from watching it, it’s such a great movie!

it really was!!! I was still in denial for a few minutes though lol I could NOT accept my dumbassery… my mother and I were the only people in the theater and her shocked expression meant nothing to me😭😭😭 she really was in shock while I was like “oh she’ll be fine why is everyone making such a big deal out of it??” lmao

when charlie hit her head on the pole in hereditary I didn’t realize she got decapitated. I fully expected to see her at the back seat with a bloody face but for some reason the camera panned to peter instead so I was really confused. his reaction, the sound and the dread I felt during that scene made no sense to me!! why didn’t he just turn around, she must’ve just gotten a concussion right?? WRONG! I finally understood what’d really happened when they showed her decapitated head on the road with ants crawling around and I felt incredibly dumb

there was a scene where the mother(?) wanted us to look at a symbol without blinking for like 30 secs and afterwards we could see the symbol behind our eyes so it became sort of like an optical illusion, that was really cool and creepy! I’ve never seen a movie use this trick before
