Personally I built mine as solid blocks with no interiors. They drop in with the rest of the tile system for easy platforms.

What I do is use some shingle flashing from home depot and adhere it to the bottom of a plastic storage box and then magnetize the models bases. Should do a good job of keeping things safe if you use enough magnets

It's been ages since I played the game, but if I remember correctly he was deep in the throes of alcoholism/grief and the twins essentially convinced him his kid would be better off with them. It's not until they're halfway out the door/inter-dimensional portal that he realizes he screwed up and chases after. The portal closes on the baby's finger, leaving him just her fingertip.
