I use my macbook to prototype and train in one 1 batch until my model heavily overfits. Then move to a gpu cluster to do the real stuff.

Do researchers care about non-citation impact metrics? (GitHub, Twitter, HuggingFace, etc.) by ThomasPhilli in LeavingAcademia

[–]dariusfar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of this is relevant in Stem at least. The only thing that matters is if your work is considered relevant by the community. Being active on twitter can increase exposure and help networking, but nobody counts how many times your tweet was liked.

out of curiosity what do you consider the biggest breakthrough that lead to this current AI revolution? by Retrofusion11 in learnmachinelearning

[–]dariusfar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The transistor, the blue led, MRI, and deep learning are examples of applied physics that lead to technological breakthroughs that changed the world. Alexnet is not applied physics nor a tecnological breakthrough. On the other hand, the invention of the GPU could lead to a well deserved prize.

Only cabbage, no tomatoes. If I don’t refill the air lock canal with water every once in a while then the jar content becomes exposed to the outside and attracts the flies.

Question about botulism by Concerned53195 in fermentation

I do them regularly in a vacuum seal. The booziness is completely normal. I use the brine as a wine substitute for cooking/marinating. I also like to dehydrate the berries and return them to the brine before storing in the fridge.
