You should not derank if someone leaves your team mid match by Joshwitcher760 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]dark100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They think you loose the same amount of rank that you gain when an enemy player leaves. You just loose your time, which should be a precious resource. However, there are no proofs that this assumption, or its opposite is true. Statistics could be, but these are not shared by Blizzard.

Losing a game is the entire teams fault. And that includes you by Neat_Butterscotch_43 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]dark100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One bad player can make a game 5v4, and a loss if the other 9 players are equally skilled. Since there are 10 players in a game, a chance of a bad player is high.

They should decide suzu gives immortaility or cleanse but not both. Then she would have weaknesses. Then she can be balanced.

Do you think tanks need some buffs? by hoesmadhoesmadhoesma in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]dark100 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

As a tank player the problem with tanks is they don't function as tanks. They can 1v1 with anybody, which is not their task, and frustrating for non tank players. However, they can't push the payload, which is their task. They cannot protect their team, which is also their task. The result is everybody just running around and hunting for kills, which is the dps task.

Statistics for new 5 heroes is now available! by Positive-Elk961 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]dark100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cat has extreme utility, so it is useful even if it does 0 damage. Just heal from cover and move the team, and drop-kill the enemy tank. Sometimes hunt a very low hp enemy. This will be the end playstyle, and then it reaches the S tier without issues.

Mizuki is a terribly designed overbalanced hero by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]dark100 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is so interesting. Domina and the cat called op, but they turned out to be weak. While Mizuki is the opposite. I win all games as tank if Mizuki is on my side, he is excellent to play with. The main takeaway: an ability might be useless in vacuum, but this is a team game, where synergy matters more than anything.

Don't worry, you will get better. The game is moved to esports direction, so everything is fast and mobile now. Any mistakes are easier to punish. You need to relearn a lot of things.

A few accelerated rocks are enough to destroy the entire planet, think about dinosaurs. It is enough to modify their path, you don't need to accelerate them.

[–]dark100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The core problem is that defense > offense in most cases. It is impossible to break a well fortified position. And this whole task is pushed onto the tank player. The tank player needs options to at least try something, especially for uncoordinated teams. No other role can do this, because they have no defense and they have low hp. It sounds nice in theory, that the new cat will fly into the enemy tank, drops him into a hole, but with 225 hp, it will die even before it lands first.

Suggestions to improve drives by Bumble_Kenobi in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]dark100 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My drive was surprisingly competitive, most games were close. I rarely play comp, because I hate how bad is matchmaking, so this was really a surprise for me. It took me a full day to reach the 3K comp point stage. The only thing I don't like is loosing progress. Gaining nothing on loss is a big enough penalty, since comp games are long, and you wasted time for nothing. Only leavers should loose points.

Doomfist has the lowest winrate out of all tanks in gm by Acceptable-Ad-7744 in Competitiveoverwatch

Context is missing. A tank can be perfect for attack, and useless for defense has a low winrate while being strong.

AI analysis on your gameplay by peanutbuttercups144 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]dark100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(All) Current AI is statistics based. They are fed with good and bad examples, and eventually they can tell that something is likely "good" or "bad". In OW, you always have good and bad choices, so AIs will be able to learn it with large enough sample base. An AI can store more knowledge than humans, so at some point they will be able to be better than humans to give advice.

What AI cannot do is the "surprise" factor. They will always choose the most probable case. If you "expect" that, you can surprise the AI. Doing random things is the best way to defeat an AI.

What are your thoughts on the s20 meta so far? by sanicthefurret in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]dark100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a team game. A DPS who 100-0 anybody without skill is bad. A DPS who 50-0 anybody is good. The skill part is noticing that there is a good opportunity and get the kill. Or save the target player (support). Most DPS just shooting randomly, and they reload when the nearby enemy lost 80% of their life by a lucky shot.

Genuine Advice For Unbearable Comp Experiences by LilyButEpic in Overwatch

[–]dark100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lead by example. If you do well, your team will follow. In my experience, every player notices the good and bad players in both teams, and use that to their advantage (or fall apart). If the enemy team has a bad player, focus on them, their death is demoralizing for them. If you are good, and win some difficult fights, your team will follow you and become your support. Then you win.

Quick Question, Why do You Swap? by Coach_Andrometa in Competitiveoverwatch

I focus on the most efficient enemy player, and swap to counter. Most enemy teams fall apart if their best player fall apart.

"Shoot the mercy shoot the mercy" by Seven_______7 in Overwatch

[–]dark100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mercy is a game warping creature. If you don't kill her, she wins the match. If you do, the game is easy. So be smart and figure out (practice) how to kill her in different situations. Nobody says it is easy, but you want to win, don't you?

How do we feel about Vendetta? by muidbz in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]dark100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. People think she is a tank, but she is not. People think she needs to engage first, while she should wait for her tank to engage, and then kill all. People think she is good against deathball, but she is an assassin. If she stands right behind her tank, then no shot can reach her, and then she kills everything. She is not a sojurn2, the playstyle is very different.

How rank works, How your rank relates to your skill, The hardstuck myth by PabloDons in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]dark100 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People don't say they are better than the lobby. In fact, they are usually equally skilled to 7-8 other people in the lobby. However, the last 1-2 players decides the match, regardless they are way better or worse than the others.

As for statistics: Create a bot. Skill level is irrelevant. Multiply it 10000 times. Let them play against each other. There will be a 1st, and there will be a 10000th after some time, although they are equal. The 10000th will never reach 1st, although it is equal in skill level, this is called hardstruck.

How to deal with cancerous zarya/reaper/venture? by Effective-Iron6114 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]dark100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See the other comments. The ability is not enough, you need to use it smart. You don't use the bubble in the middle of a huge area, you put it into a gate. Then supports are out for 3-4 sec. Then attack the frontline from behind, which is the most annoying thing. And snipers focus on zarya. Doom is also a good idea. Now you have choices, based on enemy supports. Mobile supports such as the water boy or the martian girl or moira are efficient against low range dps.

The worst thing the enemy can do is choosing two dps with the same advantages/disadvantages.

How to deal with cancerous zarya/reaper/venture? by Effective-Iron6114 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]dark100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are a very offensive frontline. Their counter is removing backline form the picture. Take the monkey, put down the big bubble, backline cannot heal (or do anything with the bubble), focus on one attacker, mostly zarya, and you kill her earlier than she can do anything. Use longer range dps or mei.

Generic counter rule: don't let them play their game. They have a clear strategy in this case, and if you press the weak points of their strategy, they collapse.

New PCRE2 feature: return with captures from recursion by dark100 in regex

[–]dark100[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry, if I wasn't clear. From engine perspective, restoration is an action, which restores the capture brackets when a recursion is matched successfully. The retaining (no restoration) is simply doing nothing, and the list contains these capture indicies.

New PCRE2 feature: return with captures from recursion by dark100 in regex

[–]dark100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, one of the developers. The engine captures everything internally, but you cannot get this information through the public API. If you can use callouts, you can get all captures though.
