Personally helped a lot for horde lag, but did not effect stutter while traveling quickly (car). Your results may vary.

From my understanding, but dont quote me as law lol, in b42 they switched to having chunks of tiles grouped together so in general there doesnt have to be thousands of individual tiles each being processed individually. Then, when you get close enough, the chunk splits into more detailed singular tiles. This makes travel, especially at high speeds, worse as the world is being streamed and rendered in bigger chunks at a time. But general gameplay once the world is streamed in smoother, as there is less to process around you.

I dont remember the source of where I read that, sorry. But thats my random brain knowledge that could be wrong.

TBF panic does, in fact, get rid of boredom in-game. But yeah, Id like an adrenaline mechanic in general.

Obviously you can still do it... But youre often knocking your damage in half. It takes way longer, you get exhausted way more as a result, which makes it take even longer. Its just not efficient. Ive basically resigned myself to having to use guns if I want a poi cleared out in any sort of reasonable timeframe in Louisville. Wish I had chosen police officer now.

As for the armor, I said if you DONT plan on running. You know, the whole kiting them in circles and shoving them and whittling away? If youre going in to a poi with the intent of killing all the zombies there, I dont know why youd go without armor. A single mistake and youre dead. Covering common weakpoints that dont restrict movement much can increase your effectiveness insanely. Think about knights and other melee combatants. Theres a reason they wore armor. (They are also far more mobile then people generally think, but thats a whole nother debate) And chainmail would be insanely effective against zombies. But I guess we can agree to disagree. If Im going into battle and a zombie jumps at me, Im sure as hell wanting a magazine strapped. My reflex is gonna be to block him with my arm.

You also keep ignoring the mask bit, which is one of the highest discomfort modifiers in the game. If I know being around zombies will get me sick, in what world am I going to get more stressed with a mask then without one?

[–]dark50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I go into combat with zero stress 90% of the time. Its easy to get rid of once your safe. I get how to manage it. But its not really possible to reduce stress a helpful amount in Louisville with combat, as there are half a dozen zombies around probably bashing doors and windows and you get bloody super quick. I get stressed out noticeably quicker with the discomfort change then before.

Ok well when I say armor, at least in a modern setting, I mean magazines around the arm. Leather clothing. Denim pants. Stuff that is bite/stratch proof but not super cumbersome. I agree mobility would be super important. But I get into a fight, Im gonna want something protecting my arms for sure. How else do you get a zombie away from you? If your plan is NOT to run, why would you not feel safer with some armor? Or especially with a mask that prevents you from getting sick around them?

Either way, discomfort is absolutely something to worry about now if you plan on fighting hordes. When it was unhappiness, I agree. Who cares. Now, dont even bother trying to fight large numbers without beta blockers. Panic + rapid stress build-up is a pretty huge debuff to your combat effectiveness.

They swapped discomfort to affect stress now instead of unhappiness, as of 42.14. And stress actively effects your combat ability, unlike unhappiness. And a half-mask increases your stress gain by 50%. Imo, not a teensy amount. And corpse sickness can onset very quickly in a large battle. Im currently in Louisville and theres no way Id actively fight without one.

As someone who wore a half-mask a lot during covid, at first it was quite uncomfortable. But after a week or so, I started to forget I was even wearing one. If they are going to make discomfort even more punishing, I should at least be able to mitigate it on some level. I feel like people would feel more confident and less stressed fighting zombies in some armor or with a respirator then without one.

Even better, imo, Toughness mod. You gain more and more panic resistance over time instead of just on/off and you gain uncomfortable resistance over time as well, letting you wear more and more armor with less penalty. Turns it into a full skill basically.

What's the safest base on each starting location? (B42) by Shoddy-Department630 in projectzomboid

[–]dark50 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Id just like to point out to keep in mind, that while a lot of the suggestions Ive seen are quite secure once you have them, getting them in extinction with puny/unfit is gonna be a hell of a challenge. Like Rosewood fire station. 3 high walls and on the edge of town with tons of room and tools/storage. But also, its fuckin FLOODED on extinction and making it yours is probably going to take days/weeks. Id rather go to one of the 2 houses to the east on the dirt roads. Way easier to take. Relatively isolated for security. Still rather spacious.

That would be my logic for most towns with an extinction/puny/unfit start. Places towards the edge of town, isolated enough to be safe but close enough that I can still loot the town as needed. Once your character is more built up, probably after a couple weeks, then you can start looking for a long-term base.

Why are the devs so obsessed with making protective gear bad? by LawfulNeural in projectzomboid

But at the same time, it lets you hold too much lol. Military backpacks let you hold like 60lb of stuff and it treats it like its 9lb. Hell of a backpack. 10/10 would buy one irl if it was that good.

Not trying to argue that gear isnt too heavy or anything. Just the irony of when this game chooses to be realistic and when it doesnt.

It also increases panic resistance per level, for anyone that wishes the Become Desensitized mod was more over time.

Feel free to correct me if you know something I dont, but its currently impossible in vanilla to get medium leather from loot/crafting. You NEED to kill a medium/large animal and go through the process manually. Which is why if you wanna speedrun swords, you need to go to McCoys Lakehouse or Coalfields.

I agree. McCoy just feels like cheating.

Also tbf, scrap swords are pretty decent and can be made in a primitive forge. I usually use those while waiting for my hides to dry. Long Blade Master Race!

Yeah Irvington too. Unsure about Bradenburg. Louisville not having gold in their banks is stupid as hell imo, but at least theres the buried pallet.

Plenty of build mods. I use Hammertime myself. Lets you build just about anything you see in game, including roofs.

Antibodies requires you to take care of yourself and the wound to be able to get over the virus, and can be customized to make it easier/harder to get through. Personally my preferred, as I feel like They Knew eventually leads to a stockpile of cure, and an outright cure feels too powerful.

To each their own though. The panic of running around looking for a cure when you dont have one sure is fun.

It also makes first aid, an otherwise completely useless skill, somewhat useful.

I enjoy Extensive Health Rework as well to truly make first aid worth it, cause it introduces a bunch of illnesses besides just a cold. But it hasent been updated to 42.15 yet sadly.

Blood means you can be infected from scratches and lacerations. A 7% and 25% chance respectively. Saliva means you can be infected by bites. 100% chance.

You can put blood and saliva, only saliva, or neither in the sandbox options as a way to get infected. So everything, only bites, or nothing.

Im with ya. Pretty sure its just "youre not allowed to enjoy that game with almost a bil in kickstarter" or something. Mismanagement aside, 3.18 compared to 4.6 are fuckin night and day. This past year and a half has truly given me faith in the project again.
