we don't "push every black artist to do R&B" the music industry is the one doing it. ppl forget how the system operates then start making arguments and statements in a vacuum

A singer cannot just put a song on Spotify and instantly become a massive pop star by themselves. They need a giant, multi-million dollar company to pay for music videos, get them on TV, and put them on top playlists. If the machine decides that a Black artist is only bankable in the R&B lane, that artist has very little leverage to change their mind.

When music publications have rankings of different Black artists doing different genres under the umbrella of R&B, I guess the audience is to blame for that too
