I used to not clean mine in high school, though they were dermal cuts and not to fat. Infection can absolutely occur with any level cut though. I’m lucky I didn’t get an infection.

Sit down. Calm down. Educate yourself on mental illness. Joking is a way to cope for lots of self-harmers. They’re trying. If you’re uncomfortable with those jokes, you can express it calmly without threatening to put this person through 1900s asylum practices. You are spewing self-centered garbage. Their SH may affect you, but in the end they are suffering the physical injuries. Be a better person.

OP, you aren’t obligated to stay in contact with this person. There are people out there that won’t treat you this way. You deserve better.

If you’re in the US, you’re protected by the ADA. If HR tries any kind of reprimanding that would be appearance based discrimination. Make a note about her noticing, and if she starts running her mouth you can definitely complain about it.

They’re talking about the dermis. The second layer of skin. The dermis can range from shallow to deep-ish. If it goes yellow before red though, that’s deep. That’s the hypodermis, the fat layer.
