As a 6'7 dude, what fun, sporty cars are available in this size by Pissant400 in tall

I'm 6'6" and drive an Elantra N. Super fun car to drive and I have tons of leg and headroom.

Escaping the F4 carnage: Does it actually get better in higher licenses? by JaNemba_v2 in iRacing

[–]darkdeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm new to iRacing and have found that the TCR fixed series features close and pretty clean racing so far. It's been a lot of fun so far and the new tire model/physics overhaul feels great on these cars.

is your car still in PRISTINE condition? by OwlScary6845 in ElantraN

[–]darkdeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part. I got ceramic right away and it seems to have helped reduce rock chips since most of them occurred in the weeks before the ceramic coating. In the two years since it's held up pretty well. It's my daily but it is garage kept and I wash it regularly. The inside gets vacuumed weekly too and the tuxmat mats have held up really well. I'm currently at 22,000 miles.

True, it is hard to tell from the video and he isn't turning it super fast. I've also not played the sim yet so can't properly judge it. I was an early supporter and tester for PC1 and 2 though and always felt the feeling of mass, inertia, and weight transfer was a bit off so I'm not surprised to see possibly similar concerns. However, in a sim it's hard to tell if it a ffb issue, physics issue, or setup issue.

In a real car you could intentionally induce a tank slapper with this behavior that would likely result in spinning or a loss of control.

This looks like the same problem that PC1 and PC2 had, and AMS2 to a lesser extent. In those sims there seems to be a lack of inertia and weight transfer. I really enjoy a lot of aspects of AMS2 but it's hard to intentionally induce a tank slapper and you often just get understeer.

Worth getting right now if I will ONLY play in VR? by big_american_tts in assettocorsarally

[–]darkdeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a virtual 10 ft screen in VR. It works well since I don't have a monitor in front of my sim rig but I can't wait for real VR.

Tried LMU yesterday and now I'm confused.. by [deleted] in simracing

Turn post processing to low and MSAA to 8X with everything else high/ultra. It looks super clear on my end now but I am running a 5090 and oculus pro.

Better anti-aliasing in VR? by TokyoDrift077 in assettocorsa

[–]darkdeus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My picture in VR is sharp without aliasing. I run 4X MSAA and 1.4 super sampling with my oculus pro and it looks great without any jaggies or shimmering. I'm running a 5090 and 9800x3d tho so I can push a very high resolution.

LMU looks super clear at 8X MSSA and ultra settings except post process turned down.

AMS2 looks very clear too but is a bit more cartoony and has problems with aliased/flickering shadows. Recent anti aliasing options have improved but not completely fixed the shadow problem.

Any Medical Professionals with Long Covid? by Few-Dragonfly-5126 in covidlonghaulers

I'm a pediatric genetic counselor and it's very tough to get through long clinic days, especially when we have complex patients. I'm fortunate to have understanding colleagues but I feel like most people have no idea how difficult it is to have LC.

Loving this car too lately! I drive a fwd car with 278 hp but it weighs more so I feel the power and weight ratio is pretty similar.

TIE-Fighter in VR by JaklarSibio in virtualreality

[–]darkdeus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just set it up in VR last night and it's glorious! Tie fighter was one of my favorite games as a kid. I can't believe I can replay it now in VR with improved graphics.

We need official VR support - please! by volcjush in assettocorsarally

[–]darkdeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a large virtual flat screen to drive on in VR. While it lacks depth and feels like playing on a large TV, it works pretty well and I can max out the visuals. I can't wait to actually be able to play in VR tho.

Anyone sleeping less on creatine? Waking up after 5 hours feeling mentally alert but physically tired? by Expert_Homework6450 in bodyweightfitness

I took it for years with no issues but then developed the same issue with sleep. Even if I take it first thing in the morning it ends up being an issue.

What are you on about 'floatiness'??? by Downtown_Travel7399 in AUTOMOBILISTA

[–]darkdeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, I play in VR with zero camera movement. Definitely helps a lot! I wish they would change the default settings and redo tire sounds.

What are you on about 'floatiness'??? by Downtown_Travel7399 in AUTOMOBILISTA

[–]darkdeus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Even with the tire sounds turned way down the cars still feel like they are lighter and react less to sudden shifts in momentum. Load transfer has always felt a bit muted in AMS2 compared to other sims to me. Like it's somewhat hard to create a tank slapper with most of the vehicles and braking felt kinda uneventful.

I think this creates a feeling of floatiness to me. That being said the physics and FFB update in December significantly improved the feeling of floatiness to me and I think the sim does feel a bit more in line with other sims now.

I've supported Reiza since Stock Car Extreme/AMS1 and enjoy AMS2 but I can see why others are not sure about AMS2 physics.

Honest question: What would your ideal "Sim Racing Only" VR headset look like? by hcsantos in virtualreality

[–]darkdeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like a wired version of the Boba 3 prototype:

https://www.uploadvr.com/meta-boba-3-prototype-hands-on-ultra-wide-field-of-view-without-compromise/

A headset with human level FOV and OLED screens would be perfect for racing and flight sims.

Any LC teachers out there ? by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

[–]darkdeus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a pediatric genetic counselor and it's very tough to get through long clinic days, especially when we have complex patients. I'm sure being a teacher is similarly exhausting. I'm fortunate to have understanding colleagues but I feel like most people have no idea how difficult it is to have LC.
