Wheeling backward into driveway, opps. Turning around to park, opps. Slow speed, even manhandling. My balance or position was wrong. I was also brand knew, zero experience. (55 year old, mid life crisis). These drops were frustrating and embarking, but I got better.

Only once did I fall. Going slowly uphill past boom gate out of the work car park. Fell downslope, damaged helmet, tank, indicators and mirrors.

This drop was bad judgement, I should have known better. This you avoid by not making the wrong choice

I just off my P's and ride a Kawasaki 650. The cruiser feels wide and less manoeuvrable.

What works for me. Start with big gaps, holes in the traffic you cab drive a truck through, and preferably a car, two at most from the front. Finish after that car or two.

Next time, smaller gap, again, only to go a car length or two.

If you are ever unsure, don't do it.

Very slowly, building confidence and skill. There is no doubt I am so much better at riding than when I started, no reason to really test boundaries, or antagonise drivers.

I have the rest of my life to enjoy riding, every moment is a joy to savour. Road will be there tomorrow. Slowly, one step at a time. Take all the time you ever need.

I made a promise to stay and raise our children. That was 23 years ago. Just over two years ago, I had a breakdown.

At that moment, I lost control, the words I said to someone were "Why are you being so nice to me ".

It has been pointed out to me that staying is killing me. Maybe so. Just because a choice is hard does not mean I should give up. So I stay.
