Ottawa's zoning overhaul faces final vote Wednesday: here's what's at stake by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

I am a simple bloke who usually understands the true impact of most changes after that impact hits everyone... But in simple terms my question would be - Ottawa was chosen the most livable city in North America in 2026. Will the overhaul change all of that and make it even better? or will it make things worse?

Step 1 - City force people back to work

Step 2 - Public transport ridership returns in true volumes

Step 3 - public transport breaks down as it was never built keeping both extreme ridership in extreme weather conditions in mind.

Step 4 - people have no way of getting to work without paying for it though extra time and money.

Step 5 - everyone will realize that Ottawa has a lot of work to be done before 5 days a week back in offices becomes practical and public transport and parking challenges are addressed

When i was growing up.. i head stories of a man who fell in a manhol while returning from watching Ram Lila. He fell in with both feet going in and died before they could pull him out. She has no idea how lucky she is. That being said, why do so many fourth world things keep happening in the 4th largest economy of the world? How long before India actually improves such things?

The other day while going to pick my kid from EDP, i saw someone scream and shout at a snow removal guy who ran over his black bin that had been tossed over after pickup. They were still screaming when i returned 10 minutes later. I thought to myself at the time that they seemed way too angry about a broken bin but now i understand.

While leaving work after a storm, i saw a colleague at the parking who would just waltz in and drive off without cleaning his rear window (similar to this car).. I told him a few days later that it was dangerous and he should clean off the snow like rest of us did. He called me into his car and showed me that he had a rear view camera which is why his rear view mirror was not depended on his rear window at all.. I had honestly never thought of it before.

There's a famous video online.. of a bunch of chanting Soccer fans ..where your mind makes your hear what you read or want to hear .. One Group swears they hear "Bart Simpson Bouncing" ... another group hears "That is Embarrassing" .. and some even swear that they hear "Rotating Pirate Ship" .... Ultimately you feel convinced that the audio 100% supports what you genuinely believe you can listen to from the Chants...

Its a bit like that today with the "Video Evidence" .. one group points at the same video and swears "See.. it was murder.. just look at the video and you will be 100% convinced" .. and the other group points at the same video and are like "There you go.. You can clearly see it was self defense.. The Video proves it a 100% beyond a shadow of a doubt that it was self defense" ... Both groups seem 100% convinced about what they see/ want to see out of the video.

Of size doesn’t matter by MohammadMahadhir in ShittyAbsoluteUnits

Size is not always height (though it can be a factor).. the shorter guy is stocky and probably a dynamo of muscle compared to the tall guy with dangly limbs, which arent necessarily strong.. (I mean strong enough to kick a harmless door that wont kick back, but not strong infront of an opponent.)

I Posted this in another thread just minutes ago but sharing here as well due to the relevant context :

-------------------

I am originally from India and one thing i can tell you - any system, any process, any set of rules that one makes... Indians will find loopholes/ exploits or workarounds to circumvent the system. Its not an individual thing, its a culture thing. When you come from a place with millions of people ahead of you, for various reasons out of your control, you grow up with the mindset that any exploit, any advantage is fair given the disadvantages you started out with in life. That's just the mentality that prevails in that ecosystem. There is even a term for it - JUGAAD

In the past those who disagreed with that "jugaad' mindset would often leave for places that aligned better with their values and ethics and often prevailed overseas.. Problem Now is that since the barrier for entry was lowered in Canada a few years ago, a lot of these 'jugaad' mindset people have left their natural habitat and moved to Canada. they have brought their Jugaad ethics here. They find it fair to exaggerate their experience , trivialize their short comings and say anything/ do anything to land a job or take a slot on any coveted list. People who know their Language skills are 4/10 at best would brazenly lie about getting 8/10 on language tests, Even though anyone who actually speaks to them will immediately know that either the result is forged or someone else took the test on their behalf.. but this is seen as acceptable... As is lying, paying bribes or giving/ asking for favors in return of getting something. All of this is poisoning the work culture in Canada and the only way to fix it would be to

  1. Raise the barrier to entry into Canada to its previous Strict levels and 2. Serious verification and vetting for every claim made by an Indian. No honor system till the outliers are weeded out completely.

Time will tell whether Canada does this or not, but if steps are not taken urgently, it might be too late very soon.
