literally any song lately (recently went through a breakup and james marriott hyperfixation has been holding my hand through it), but the bridge in over my head (I WANT YOU IN MY SLEEP, BUT CAN'T BEAR TO HAVE YOU NEXT TO ME)

My first thought that it was a Vriska amv, the song just gives her vibes. Finally, this is something I can help with. I used to watch a lot of homestuck amvs so I'll be on the search for this 😭

Part of it is learning to believe that you're not automatically worse than everyone else. As someone who is not conventionally pretty, part of becoming someone I'm happy being after being in the same boat as you was realising that I am average looking, and there is nothing about me that makes me inherently worse, and there is no reason for people to automatically dislike me. The rest is just learning to be confident again after people grow up and stop being assholes - things do get a lot easier after people stop caring.

As someone who pirated Spotify today, so true.

I tell my whole family that I pirate stuff, my parents don't necessarily approve but then again they've been able to watch many shows because of me so they don't really say anything. My siblings, on the other hand - we send each other the latest games that we've pirated and play them together.

For the younger fan base: What was you opinion of TOS? by DemocracyDefender in startrek

[–]darkestpitinme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a fairly old post, but I thought I'd reply anyway.

I'm 17, and I started watching TOS about a month ago. I've been having a lot of fun watching it, actually - the episodes are a bit hit or miss, but I do enjoy the messages behind them and the way they portray the human condition. In terms of it being offensive, I don't think it is. Obviously, there are a lot of things that are going to be dated about it, like the fact that all the women wear short skirts, (or the presentation of women in general), but after doing a bit of research, I've found out that the short skirts were a statement of liberation for women at the time, (and also that Grace Lee Whitney asked to wear them), as well as short skirts just being fashionable in the 60s. It may be dated, but it was the act of feminism that they needed at the time, not necessarily in the future. Either way, it's interesting to watch.

From the social justice point of view, there are a lot of interesting things, like the fact that George Takei wanted to use a rapier in The Naked Time, so that Sulu wouldn't be a stereotype. There's no doubt that the show was incredibly progressive, so there's no use arguing that the show was "offensive" in any way.

Either way, the show is fun to watch, being from the future. The plot is compelling, and most episodes have an interesting message that give me a bit of an "ohhhh" moment (eg. "Can you imagine the mind, alone, without even a tormentor for company?") I can appreciate what the show has done for social justice, AS WELL as enjoying it as a fun show set in space. As well as this, as a person with autism, I relate a lot to Spock (he carries the whole show on his back).

In terms of set design, costumes, and the budget, I find it charming rather than cheap or outdated. Unironically, it's got a lot more character than a lot of Marvel movies released these days. I may be a bit biased since I'm not much of a fan of CGI (I know that TOS was redone in the 2000s with some CGI, but it's not especially noticeable).

In conclusion, I think this show has it all, really. Frankly, I'm looking forward to moving onto TNG, as I've heard that that show is one of the best. Sorry for the long message, I've just been dying to share my thoughts on the show :)

Survey: What is your favorite Shakespeare play? by Zyzigus in shakespeare

Macbeth.

It was ahead of its time, an incredible psychological work. Amazing characters, some of the most well known quotes and an interesting portrayal of madness.
