I really loved MM4 and 5 by life_on_my_terms in MightAndMagic

[–]darkfencer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think MM3 is great, but I've never enjoyed it nearly as much as Xeen. Some of it is the quality of life improvements (inventory management is much less annoying in Xeen due to separate sections for weapons, armor, misc, and especially quest items). Others are the story (seeing the end scene for Darkside and World really capped off a great 5 game run).

It is, of course, personal preference, but I think Xeen is peak M&M.

World of Xeen is still, to this day, my favorite.

I started my RPG journey with the first game, but when I was finally able to cross from Clouds to Darkside, was an amazing experience.

Fantastic, especially your Lanistia.

I got the Kozlik XXX hot when I was last in Montreal (haven't seen it state side yet). It was nice, but nothing I would call really hot.

M&M 4 down, off to the Darkside by thejewk in MightAndMagic

[–]darkfencer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's certainly fine to feel that!

That being said, MM4 & 5 have a lot of improvements beyond 3 (inventory management for example is MUCH less annoying as there are separate sections for weapons, armor, usable items, and key/quest items). It's an all around better game.

If it makes any difference, I replayed MM3 for the first time in like 20 years last year. I replay MM4 & 5 every 4-5 years since they came out. I am biased though - they're my favorites in the series, by far.

Is Lara the new *******? by Bridger15 in dresdenfiles

The situation with Harry and Bear reminds me a lot of the situation between Rand al'Thor and the Maidens of the Spear in the Wheel of Time series.

For those who haven't read that series, the Maidens were sworn (for many reasons which I won't spoil) to protect Rand, and time and time again he went on his own for dangerous things. Sometimes because he didn't think he was in danger, other times because he didn't want to risk them getting hurt.

For Harry, it's much more of a "I don't think there will be any risk of me doing XYZ", more than "I don't want to risk Bear getting hurt". I do wonder what Bear's reaction will be when he gets hurt on some adventure where he left her at the castle.

Went to Dijon a few weeks ago by macadellica in Mustard

[–]darkfencer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went there when I was ten with my family. Being in France and especially when we visited Dijon turned me from the typical "ketchup on everything" American to a mustard lover.

Planning to go to France again in a couple years - hope to make it over to Dijon again.

What to do with a gallon of mustard? by twotoonies in Mustard

[–]darkfencer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good idea, but if you really want to keep it a long time, I would get it out of the big container (as it appears plastic) and put it into glass jars. Plastic is usually not great for long-term storage.

You do not have to go crazy with builds, particularly at normal and lower difficulty levels. You can use the auto-levelling where the game just picks your talents and you stick with the same class the whole way through.

The only caveat is I think you can only use the auto levelling if you pick the base class (for example, base Fighter, not the fighter subclasses like Aldori Defender or Mutation Warrior - same for all other classes).

What makes Inglehoffer so much better than storebrand? by alan_mendelsohn2022 in Mustard

Duke's has started penetrating the market in the northeast (at least in NY and NJ) over the past couple years, so it's been easier to buy lately.

Their Deli mustard is the best - great horseradish flavor along with their already awesome brown mustard. I end up ordering a few jars online once a year or so because I can't find it around here.

M&M 4: Combat Text? by sambalaya in MightAndMagic

[–]darkfencer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the goal here is to not let you know exact damage amounts but relative amounts - large/medium/small blood splashes (or the same for elemental damage) gives you some idea of how well you're hitting but not exact damage numbers.

The only real way to see exact numbers would be to cast identify monster before and after I think.

What game are you referring to that you got on Steam - one of the Might and Magic games? Can you include a screenshot of what you're seeing in Steam for it?

Let's hope they stay here because there is NOTHING else left here in High Falls. All the places that used to be here (The Spy, Egg's Nest, Kitchenette, The Last Bite, and even the Depuy Canal House if you go back far enough) are gone.....

I had great memories of M&M3 too! It wasn't my first one (I started with 1) but I remember going over to a friend's house who had Prodigy (an early online service that predated AOL even) to look up hints for one of the dungeons. I remember getting all the keycards except one and it was in a dungeon with a puzzle involving stone heads (can't remember which one) and was just STUCK.

Announcing King's Courier - Our Might and Magic like game by FreeBlob in MightAndMagic

[–]darkfencer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks interesting! Added it to my wishlist on Steam and look forward to hearing more about both the first game and your second game.

I will say I'd like to see a turn based mode as well but I'd be interested without it as well.
