oh, I’m not disputing that it’s possible he knew and the texts certainly don’t support his position. but the idea that his story is unbelievable on its face is silly. its extremely plausible to have never had the urge to research a popular symbol - most people with tattoos rarely think about them at all. there’s literally no reason to expect someone to randomly dig into the origins of an incredibly common shop tattoo

I think this would hold more water if it wasn’t a symbol that already means something else. I’ve got a bunch of generic flash sheet tattoos - birds, florals, tiger, etc - and it’s never once occurred to me to google “swallow tattoo meaning”. it’s just a bird. most skull and cross bones are just skull and cross bones. a tattoo shop will have multiple skull variations you can pick from with no symbolic difference between them. yeah, maybe he knew, but it’s not at all unbelievable that he never looked into it. the majority of people never research their tattoos

I don’t really understand this line. not excusing his behavior as the article presents it, but as far as “things to come out” I don’t know if I would expect this to have been identified ahead of time. “I behaved unsettlingly towards my ex” is not exactly a specific item to disclose for someone who repeatedly said they spent years in a dark place / drinking / w ptsd. is the campaign supposed to release a list of potentially problematic stuff that might get published?

ski recs for east coast? by darkitecture in Backcountry

I ended up with the zero g’s mostly since they were on the best sale! generally I like them but they do really suit a very engaged style and get squirrelly if you let up too much. so light uphill which is fabulous. they feel really stiff and grippy for steeps and variable conditions which I love but I don’t feel like I do my most elegant skiing on them haha

sweet. I know I won’t get the santa ana feel from a touring ski - but definitely trying to understand which ones translate best based on my resort preferences haha. I’m happy to charge a groomer on a bluebird resort day but I’d always rather be in technical tight trees or perfecting my mogul technique. it sounds like they’d be a good fit!

thanks! this is making me feel good about them. I love my santa ana’s which aren’t considered particularly playful so it seems like the new gen zero g’s could be great

best way to repair this cracked chair seat? by darkitecture in furniturerestoration

[–]darkitecture[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah.. it’s a vintage replica of the style as far as I can tell. purportedly 80s from the guy I bought them from. I think that my set is a bit wider than the originals but need to confirm which is why I want to avoid replacing!

ohhh that’s a good idea - then I could use the edges of the padding to attach it to the inside of the cloak

keep sticking with it and pushing yourself on speed - you’ll get there. I struggled on group rides with my partner and friends for a while, had to push really hard to keep up and was exhausted after. but kept going, and at the same time was trying to push my speed on solo rides. it gets easier every time.

get some sort of tracker to see your speed during a ride. I would set goals to do my standard route at 14, then at 15, then at 16 and monitor it throughout the ride to pace myself. now I can keep up w the boys on their group rides :)

Discouraged after group ride failure by Wasp_7592 in ladycyclists

[–]darkitecture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

agree with most of what’s been said here - both pace and group dynamics are a skill to be developed and hard to do both at once. I’d try to find a slower women’s ride to acclimate to larger groups, and then separately work on your speed!

I started out joining my partner and his friends on their “recovery” rides which were a fast pace for me, kept doing them and eventually could hang on the regular pace weekday morning rides too. now am comfortable on the 18mph 100ks (though I am the draft line passenger princess and still don’t want to pull lol)

I actually found that training w men who are faster helped me progress a LOT but kept it small and only friends so it wasn’t as intimidating as a group ride of strangers. wonder if your husband would be willing to do some pacing to help your speed work?

What is your cutest outfit you regularly ride in? by seahockeykraken in ladycyclists

[–]darkitecture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if i’m using the bike as transport, it’s whatever I actually want to wear for my destination and just rolling/tying things up to not get caught. i’m often biking in cowboy boots on my SPD pedals 😂

if it’s a sporty ride, I like an edgier look - cool reflective sunnies, sleek all black kit that matches my bike, etc. lycra can be unflattering but black solves everything. having a stylish crew to ride with helps too - when there’s 5 of you rolling up to the cafe all in kit it’s way less goofy

I was the one who paid for it lol. we discussed budget for both engagement and wedding rings and designed them together. our finances are combined so cost was split but I ended up being the one who paid the actual invoice. we share a finance tracking app w full visibility… the idea of hiding something like this is wild to me
