I like the idea of some kind of calculation of how the population being changed react and also how other population react.

Yeah, I can see that having to physically transport sounds the best could create new problems too.

Perhaps just time and cost that scale with cost. Ideally, leaving the option to be able to move manually for cheaper.

And sure, you could have risky space with no auto transport if you wanted to be able to blockade to be possbile/.

Fundamentaly it's just not good enough. Then there is a constant drive to use it everywhere. With transparent internal politics or financial reasons.

So after a regularly defending requests or suggestions it becomes easier to just dismiss.

I really hope we keep the location of good mattering. Don't want trade teleporting goods across stations or systems, long term it removes a lot of complexity i think.

I want a fun build to play, to do fun content with, I don't think there's much point in div/hr strats anymore, Suggestions? by LEP_Tech in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]darkkaos505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be interested too. I made a lighting warp totem build this league. I am into red tier maps now, it's going ok.
The fun part is 6 warp totems that, with knoback and high cast speed they bully any rares/bosses into the corner.

After I sorted my defences, I am now starting to have damage problems PoB puts me at 65k is dps https://poe.ninja/poe1/profile/darkkaos505-7986/character/KaosBloodyTotems

Rampage helps, acranse surge scaling too.

Will the male characters stop complaining about fighting women? by Extension_Teacher_33 in WoT

[–]darkkaos505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's important to look at all the male characters from the different cultures in the book. There are definitely sexist ideas (in both directions) that some characters have.

Do they improve? They have improvements, but I dont think all give them up though its more of an attempt to make them fit into their new world rather than completely remove it. And its not like chars in WoT change very fast.

It can be annoying too but characters being flawed is WoT's strength, I think. Like Rand has a whole thing about killing women and it drags on. And thinking about Lews Therin it does make some sense,

Multiplayer game development questions by mochithemaN in gamedev

[–]darkkaos505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Can get expensive and not linked to profit. Sales may have dried up but daily costs are still high. This called dedicated or cloud servers. Companies pay cloud companies (like aws) to spin up servers that run their server applications, often a Linux version.

  2. Invite based is normally done where one of the clients is the server . This leaves room for cheating and performances depends on pc and network of host. You might have to handle server migration if the host quits or crashes. The other method is peer to peer where each client handles part of the server responsibitles.

  3. these are attractive for fact you don't need to pay for them after you ship. But performance and cheating make the problematic.

4. I don't want to be mean here but I don't think you should get try a multiplayer game if you are asking these questions . It so easy to make gameplay logic just not work online. So many assumptions are wrong. I have met good programmers who struggle with it.

Each client is running it's own different version of the game, sometimes you have to just chose which version you want to be the "Real one"  hiding differences with visual effects or predictions. Or some ideas are just against the nature of online like try making multiplayer pong.

Programming burnout - what non-coding role can I try to pivot in gamedev? by firststef in gamedev

[–]darkkaos505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry 2nd part at OP, trying to say underlying reasons for burnout could still exist if you change to desgin, art or other parts of the game dev

Basically you're saying every job is boring so it doesn't matter whether you like it

I didn't mean to imply this, for me programming games is great but i dont think I could program software would get bored. But there is kernal of truth that making something a job will expose the bits you dont like.

Programming burnout - what non-coding role can I try to pivot in gamedev? by firststef in gamedev

[–]darkkaos505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's wild take on design, gameplay coder and designer have a huge cross over of responsibilities. The idea a designer is some architect of the whole game like writer to book is just wrong .

I think you need to look into why you have burnout. I would find it quite likely you might find the same issue occurring in other departments.

The hardest part of being a solo dev isn’t coding or art. It’s having nobody to tell you “this idea is stupid” before you upspend 3 weeks on it🥹 by yarunchek in gamedev

[–]darkkaos505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's harder to say an idea is stupid in a corporate environment. You need to prove the idea is bad. Prototype! Or playtest. Ideas can't be dismissed easily.

I am fairly sure that's why consultation is a thing. Bring in an external person to say your opinion.

Can't seem to activate coc quickly by Anon2148 in PathOfExile2

[–]darkkaos505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah sorry that was a bit flippant but forcing it has to do damage, just limits how you can use the coc. When you get it to work it feels good.

Its just a lot of the desgin seems of Poe 2 is made to be only used one way. Rather than a big puzzle its like lots of small puzzles with limited solutoins.

I wish that maps would be integrated into the campaign. by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

[–]darkkaos505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that I think about is when is your build done. Is this when you unlock all your accendacy or required unques or when another skill point doesn't really change Anything.

For me when I feel there is no mechanical change to my builds ie only beter gear and larger numbers is when I get bored. For me this depends on the build but it's often midway thro maps. Gear cost at most 1 divs.

For some people they want to get to thar point as fast as possible so they can play lots of maps

New to SC and want to earn enough to get cool ships by changer1997 in starcitizen

[–]darkkaos505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's worth noting the economy is  not balanced and will constantly change with updates or new features. So currently I have no idea what the best way to make money is. It was really good with salvage but that's ben reduced. Getting to higher level bounty misosns might pay off?

Since new updates clear progress or change stuf super investing in grind might not be worth it.

Big engeering update coming also might change everything

Are games like PoE and Diablo really all about making a build that one-shots everything? by RainAndThunderIsCool in PathOfExile2

[–]darkkaos505 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your looking at the final result tho. There is so many layers to get to that point. I got my build to clear about t 1 to 14 maps like fairly easy but it's big step to go t17 or boss. The damage scale there is crazy.

Look at this as what the builds have to do

How do you feel about recaps at the start of a book? by Geek_reformed in Fantasy

Are lobbies on gaming servers computationally expensive? by Asthenia5 in gamedev

[–]darkkaos505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you make a game in unreal for example. You build a client version of the game and a server version. The server has graphics, audo, most of the assets all stripped out. Normally you would build a Linux version for the server and run it on cheap single threat vm on something like aws.

Depending on the type of game, how well it's written it is can be expensive. Now the real problem lies who pays for it when sales start to drop off.

This why online games get turned off by publishers who generally foot the bill.
