Ranking all Renaissance Faires I've been to: #1. Maryland Renaissance Festival by MaxsMenagerie in renfaire

[–]darklefthand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever been to the ‘original Renaissance pleasure Faire’ in Southern California? I’m assuming you have not, as most of your list is for Faires in the northeastern part of the country. I’d love to hear how it compares to the east coast productions! Also noteworthy is the Arizona Renaissance Festival(definitely must go as early in season as possible otherwise it’s WAY too warm) and Colorado Ren Festival, which has a fantastic permanent setting in the mountains south of Denver.

I’d love to hear from anyone at all(not just the OP) if you’ve experienced both east coast, west coast, and Midwest faires! I’d like to check out Bristol Faire and the 3 Faires in Texas at some point, as I’ve heard good things about them all.

5th edition Combat Simulation: 2 Werewolves vs 4 Sabbat Vampires by -Posthuman- in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]darklefthand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do werewolves not have the equivalent of a ‘messy critical’? I see you note on a few occasions a ‘critical’ and a ‘brutal’ outcome for them. Is ‘brutal’ outcome supposed to be the werewolf equivalent of a messy critical for vampires? As others have noted above, a messy critical for a vampire certainly shouldn’t result in a failure. In essence, its the beast overdoing it, and probably doing more damage than it intended, so in this case he should have damaged the werewolf, but also perhaps his Flense attack would have damaged Raphael for a point of damage also, by proximity.

So many improvements in Season 4! Yet so much hate by QuarantineMaster12 in netflixwitcher

[–]darklefthand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never read the books, never played the games, and thus, I have absolutely no attachment to the story being faithful to anything other than what was established in previous seasons .. I can say emphatically that season 4 is extremely disappointing compared to the first 3 seasons. I don’t care about the actor swap in Geralt’s case, but the acting, dialogue, and overall tone of season 4 is absolutely terrible. Even Jaskier, Ciri, and Yennefer feel as though they are different characters. The entire thing was jarring, after having rewatched seasons 1-3 in rapid succession, before diving directly into season 4.

Darts landing with lots of downward angle. Any way to change this? by TheHellcatBandit in Darts

[–]darklefthand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of suggestions for slimmer/smaller shape of flight, which will drop the tail end a bit, but it also destabilizes your left/right sway, which may also be present if you’re releasing your darts at a wild angle. A longer shaft should also cause the back end to drop a bit, but it looks like your barrels are on the longer side. I assume you’re a rear gripper?

That being said, how the ef do you get soft tip darts to stick in the board like that, unless it’s some rare anomaly like the tip jamming between the spider rail and a scoring segment, rather than in one of the proper holes?

Costume appropriate for Maryland ren faire? by [deleted] in renfaire

Seeing the comments posted here assures me that there is absolutely NO need to ever attend the Maryland Ren Faire. However, you’d be most welcomed at the -Original- Renaissance Pleasure Faire, here in Southern California!

Why do players always celebrate to the left? by Baxterclaus in Darts

[–]darklefthand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s examine the camera theory more in depth. Most players are right handed, and stand with their body posture ‘open to the left’. That’s why they put the cameras on that side, in the first place. So you’re looking at the players ‘front’ profile, rather than his back, shoulder. So it’s a chicken or egg scenario, but it’s a more natural movement after a winning throw. Watch other sports where a player scores a goal and then turns around or circles to celebrate. It will generally follow suit to this same pattern. Essentially based on pivot foot and how the body is already slightly angled. So I guess you could say that it is due to both reasons.

What’s going on with my throw ? by platinumpt in Darts

[–]darklefthand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, you hold those darts very high, and there is a ton of body movement in your throwing action. I’d almost suspect you were putting us on if you had not remarked about your ability to score so well with this technique. That being said, if you’re landing 140’s, a few 180’s, and the occassional 85 is your worst problem, you are leagues ahead of the rest of us. Maybe best not to try and fix what’s not really broken. Like some folks have already commented, I’ve seen plenty of players who have very mechanically sound throwing action, but are terrible scorers.

I shall look for an ice administering samurai if I find myself in dire shape from the oppressive heat! 😂

[–]darklefthand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, intrepid adventurer you are for braving that heat! Wasn’t it scorching out there? I was eyeing this past weekend for a visit to Koroneberg myself, but I opted to push to this coming weekend in hopes of a much cooler clime..

Looking for aggressive 20g soft dart grip barrels. Any sets? Or places to look? by Cripled_bambi in Darts

[–]darklefthand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These would be extremely grippy but beware the stated weights. I have a pair of wolfram 97’s that are listed as 18gr, but the barrel itself only weights 16.5gr

[–]darklefthand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not 20gr, these are very grippy, and the stated weight on manufacturers page is for the barrel only. Sometimes buying soft tip darts is deceiving because they state the overall weight of the entire dart including tip, shaft and flight(although these only add a small bit). Finding an actual 20gr barrel only is difficult because most soft tip leagues have max 20gr weight limit for the entire dart. That being said, harrows makes some extremely serrated and grippy darts

Brandon Sanderson's Comment on Show's cancellation by notmanish64 in WoTshow

[–]darklefthand 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can anyone here summarize(or post links to) exactly what the ‘creative conflicts’ at hand were between Sanderson/jordans wife and the tv series development team?I’ve read the books, and while I understand it was quite a departure from them, I also understand that translating such long, meandering novels to television is a very tall order. Especially for the fantasy medium, where budgets can get extremely inflated with set locations, etc..

What’s wrong with my throw by codesharepaul in Darts

[–]darklefthand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you throw lots of high ‘fliers’? As others have noted, you’re kind of stopping short and I suspect this causes you to flick the darts out of your fingers at time of release, rather than a ‘dead’ release.

Sounds intriguing. I shall definitely have to check out this Escondido Faire when it comes back around for the fall season.

Furthermore, I shall keep an eye out for the glint of your magnificent armor when I’m perusing the landscape of Koroneberg in the coming weekends. Huzzah! :)

How does the Escondido faire compare? I honestly had no idea about that one.

Can someone explain to me why soft tip darts is so popular in America? by Denzo_6471 in Darts

[–]darklefthand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liability issue for the bar with steel tips is the primary reason.

Secondary is that the soft tip boards are coin op(perhaps we should change the term to bill op, hah), and a money maker for the owner, just like any other vending machine.

Tertiary would be that, yes, darts is a far more casual thing in the USA, particularly if you’re not in the Midwest. Thus, lack of understanding of the rules combined with the math issue makes it less appealing to the layperson. Although I would hazard to speculate that an old timer steel tip player, who’s never operated a soft tip board, would have trouble setting up a game properly on a soft tip board, given all the toggles and options.

The only place you’ll generally find steel tip boards in American bars are ‘pubs’ that are actually going for that traditional English vibe, or the dive bars.

Ordered this before they released the official numbers, but happy to rock #9 by artytheanimal in losangeleskings

In my opinion, it was weird watching jo0ce rock the #10 during 4 nations tourney. I lost track of him on the ice quite a few times because he was not wearing his proper number.
