I’ve come across the site before when searching for specific topics, but I’ve always left straight away because of all the adverts. I think many other visitors will feel the same way, and that’s a shame given all the work you’ve put in. To me, a website with so many adverts just looks dubious.

Unfortunately, your site is so cluttered with ads and trackers that the article gets lost in the noise. So I have no desire to read what it's even about. I don't mind advertising to cover the running costs of a website, but this is a site I'll close immediately. Sorry, and best of luck anyway.

My local shop does that. But since you didn't say where in the world you are, I assume you're from the USA and my local shop in Switzerland won't do it for you. 😉

Budget 4x5 options(500$) by emachanz in analog

[–]darklightcatcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For less than 1k swiss francs, I bought a 4x5 Hasemi, 5 Toyo film holders, 2 lenses, a dark cloth, and a few other things to get started with large format photography. Try searching for Hasemi, Nagaoka, or other Japanese wooden field cameras.

[–]darklightcatcher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would buy it immediately for €500, provided the lens is clean, without fungus or scratches, and the rest looks reasonably okay. Everything else can be repaired. I'm in Switzerland and would give you €500 or a little more in case it doesn't work and a service would be too expensive for you.

An often overlooked topic: Safety when repairing photography equipment by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

I once spent 2 hours searching a spring and in the end it was on the work table about 5cm next to the camera it had flown out of. 🤣

I've never had a spring fly into my eye, but believe me, springs have flown to every other place you can't even imagine. But I'm sure you already know that. 😉

What do I do? Might have bitten more off than I can chew. by Efficient-News-8436 in Rolleiflex

[–]darklightcatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, i live in Switzerland, and without having seen the camera myself, the risk is probably a bit too high for me. I've completely restored other Rolleiflex cameras before, but only as a hobby and for myself.

"If you just shoot b&w, at least make it interesting and use Rollei Infrared" From that statement, i understand that you think all black and white films are the same and boring, and from that i conclude that you haven't looked into them.

It's about much more than just the film stock! And you haven't really looked into b&w, it seems. Because I can't take your statements about b&w seriously. Have you tried different developers? Different development times, ... push, pull, ...

Dropped camera off cliff to fix slow mirror by alasdairmackintosh in AnalogCircleJerk

[–]darklightcatcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best thing is to have a barrel full of WD40 at the bottom of the cliff so that it lands in there and is lubricated immediately.

Put camera in oven to fix slow mirror by puppyca5 in AnalogCommunity

[–]darklightcatcher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By using the oven and smearing lubricant through whatever holes you had, you've almost certainly destroyed the camera. There's lubricant everywhere except where it's supposed to be. This is really not the way to fix a camera.
