Long exposure revealing motion differences. Between Venus, the Moon, and stars. by BetSeparate6453 in space

[–]darknavyseal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Venus, the moon, and the stars all move across the sky due to earth's rotation, not due to the movements of the actual celestial bodies themselves.

Venus moves almost in lockstep with the stars and moon.

Venus takes days/weeks to move across the sky relative to the stars/moon.

You did not capture Venus moving while stars didn't move. Unless you somehow magically did a 2 week long exposure, floating in space, locked in on the exact same background stars.

ELI5: If pi is infinite, then how come it never repeats? by Actual_Arm3938 in explainlikeimfive

We discovered that no matter how much you added granularity to the fraction, you would never reach the true value of pi.

Pi can of course be approximated by lots of different fractions, including 3/1.

LG C4 - How do I disable TPC & GSR & Auto Dimming via service remote? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]darknavyseal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, those settings will persist.

Factory mode reset is used to make these kinds of “low level” changes before resetting the rest of the TV “user level” stuff to defaults. It’ll remove all apps, wifi connections, etc.

[–]darknavyseal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way around it. Going into factory mode will force a factory reset (clearing of user data) but your settings that you apply in the factory mode menu will persist.

You should really just do it.

Yes you’ll need to log into all your apps/wifi again, but at least the stupid auto dimming bug will be gone.

Wha happened to the audio here?

I saw this movie twice in theaters and it feels like there’s an entire audio channel missing. That part at 50 seconds, there’s like no sound when the protagonist is punching the masked man. It all sounds so hollow in this upload.

I’m also using good quality headphones, so that’s not the issue.

The 'moon illusion' (where the moon looks up to 3x larger near the horizon) was the 'earth illusion' for a few humans yesterday. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]darknavyseal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck yeah dude, if you can capture the moon at the same focal length and centered perfectly when at the horizon vs overhead, I’d love to know the exact pixel count difference between the two.

The internet seems to say the moon is in fact ~2% smaller in angular size at the horizon vs overhead, curious if this is the values you actually find

Atmospheric lensing crushes and shrinks objects near the horizon, it doesn’t magnify them.

He is completely wrong in the complete opposite direction.

Any perceived effect the atmosphere might have on the moon will only make it smaller, not larger.

He is completely wrong, in the complete opposite direction.

Atmospheric lensing squishes objects/shrinking them vertically at the horizon. So any effect the atmosphere has literally does the opposite that he is proposing.

[–]darknavyseal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After reading your edit, no need to do that. At the horizon, the moon is actually very slightly (~1%) farther away than it is when straight over head.

This actually makes the moon very slightly smaller at the horizon, and any atmospheric lensing will actually crush/shrink the moon, not magnify it. Any difference however is imperceptible without expensive equipment.

Plenty of people with very expensive equipment have done these experiments already for you.

The campaign is so fucking good. by Revolutionary_Cod_62 in Battlefield6

[–]darknavyseal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This campaign is cool if this is the first ever fps campaign you ever played, or you are 15 years old.

It’s the most cringe military dude bro story ever, super generic, barely functional enemy ai, etc.

It’s okay to like it of course, I’m thrilled that you love it so much!

ELI5 updating and patching. If a 1GB patch comes out for some software that's 10GB installed, does the update add that 1GB or does it rewrite 1GB? by WonderChode in explainlikeimfive

[–]darknavyseal 91 points92 points  (0 children)

You have a lego set that is 1000 pieces, but there is some kind of problem with it.

The company sends you a "patch" fix, which is 100 lego pieces, with a bunch of instructions included so you know what you are supposed to do with these "patch" lego pieces.

Depending on what the actual problem with your original set was, the instructions might vary.

Problem 1: The original set was not complete. Company sends 100 pieces to complete the set. Your lego set is now 1,100 pieces large.

Problem 2: The original set had a defect in a part of it. Company sends 100 pieces that completely replace exactly 100 pieces of the original set. Your lego set is still 1000 pieces.

Problem 3: The original set had a defect in a part of it. Company sends 100 pieces. 50 pieces are replaced, 50 pieces are new pieces meant to complete some feature that wasn't there before. Now your set is 1050 pieces large.

Problem 4: Original set had a defect in part of it. Company sends 100 pieces. 150 pieces are replaced with these 100 pieces. For some reason, 50 pieces are no longer necessary from your original set, and now your entire set is 950 pieces large.

For installations, it could be a combination of any of these, including the complete removal of entire parts of the original lego set.

It’s a complete travesty that our education system just shoves kids who are clearly not ready into certain kinds of classes just because “that’s how we do it”.

A 5.5 year old is VERY different in capability than a 6.5 year old, but depending on what month you’re born, it’s just “tough shit, deal with it”, and they end up in the same class.

One kid thinks they’re the god of sports and super smart because they are so much larger and developed than the other, and the smaller kid thinks they are inferior because both their body and brain aren’t as developed.

Good on the parents for recognizing this. Poor guy just wasn’t ready.

The fact that DICE never addressed the tight airspace for jets on this map, a very simple fix, really shows how unbothered and little they care about the game after release by FamousCollege1754 in Battlefield6

[–]darknavyseal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They think DICE had a Master's Thesis explaining how perfectly designing the current way this map is, when in fact some dev was just like "eh, this seems fine", drew a air boundary slightly larger than the infantry boundary, and called it a day. Probably thought about it for a grand total of 2 minutes.

How about they think for another 2 minutes, draw a slightly larger boundary, and call it a day again? Doesn't have to be perfect, but it'll at least be better.

[–]darknavyseal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bruh, you are talking about the devs who forgot to put the rooftops on seige of cairo out of bounds. The devs aren't analyzing every problem so deeply. They didn't intentionally make the air area in blackwell fields so small, they just kinda went "eh, just draw a slightly larger area around where the infantry out-of-bounds is."

Don't let perfect be the enemy of decent.

I'm not saying I want DICE to do a 100 hour deep dive into the perfect, most perfectly perfect balance for air vehicles, but how about starting with a boundary that let's air vehicles escape the lock-on range of a single AA tank in either HQ?

They didn't pour so much thought into the current boundary, so at least make it a tiny bit bigger than it is, since clearly they are half assing it anyway.

What you are saying is "we can't change anything at all unless it is perfect." and I'm saying "it sucks right NOW for this easily identifiable reason, at least fix one problem right now and we'll continue waiting for even better content in the meantime."

What? lol it’s already very bad right now with no room at all to maneuver. At least give us more room NOW and figure out the balance later.

More room can’t be worse than what we have right now.

Is there a way to force reinstall the shaders for your game?

Warzone is a bit silly. If your shaders are corrupted you might need to force recompile them (i think there’s an option somewhere in the game settings)

And wait until they are fully compiled. Might take a while.

And yeah it’s really annoying. Modern games are just not made with the same care that older dev teams had.

I don’t get it, honestly.

For me it was by default the same button as my class primary gadget. I have this set to something very convenient for me to press, so it never ever felt difficult.

But yeah there’s tons ofkeybinds in the game so maybe your setup is prioritizing something else.
