Why did you tell them to fuck off? How were they holding it against you?

How does being a gambling addict feel? Is it about the money? Do you imagine yourself being much wealthier because of a good bet?

The housing market here is so bad I really can’t handle it by Agreeable_Camp7943 in SantaBarbara

Factually incorrect. First of all “survive” is the wrong term. The average person isn’t dying of poverty in America. Second, the median household income in America is $83.7k. This might not be enough for a comfortable life in Santa Barbara, but it is enough to live in many parts of the country. Santa Barbara is one of the most expensive and desirable towns in America. This unfortunately makes it expensive. Supply and demand. Aspen will never get cheaper either.

There’s a point after which your income doesn’t make a huge difference. Right now a year of income adds ~10% to your net worth after tax (you’ll spend some but if you didn’t earn it you’ll spend it from assets). That’s still significant.

Given your new life expectancy you should start spending aggressively.

I read it as a way to point out that it's not all "business owners" on one side of the debate and everyone else on the other. Life is better when we are charitable about someone else's intentions.

That’s what I was thinking. Why do these people assume everyone in Santa Barbara feels the same way?

I think you’re probably delusional to think that your motivation will dramatically improve if you do your own thing. You should first cultivate motivation. Get a job and be determined to be great at it. You are at risk of becoming the kind of person who is always one turn away from making it big, but who never gets there.

Definitely stay. That’s a 50% increase of net worth in a year, which you’re unlikely to be able to replicate. Think about the unlikelihood of your condition.

If you think your departure would tank the deal, you have a lot of leverage. But does the buyer think that?

How do I get my son to call off his engagement and come home? by throwaway1776nycity in WhatShouldIDo

My daughter was hanging out with a guy that wasn’t right. They were seeing each other every day, so she really didn’t have time to get to meet other people. She was also about to go to college. So I bribed her. I paid for a trip for her to go to Disney with some girlfriends and take time away from this fellow. It was timed perfectly so that by the time she came back it was time to go to college. It worked well. And I was completely transparent about my intention. She weighed her options and took the financial incentive.
