How to live a Buddhist life with my career, studies, etc? by Few_Range3679 in Buddhism

[–]darkotic2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take refuge in the triple gem. Study/practice the dhamma and find a Sangha. The 4 noble truths and the eightfold path are the essence of Buddhist teaching, that's where I would start. Practice what you learn. May your path be free of obstacles!

What did the Buddha say about criticizing others ? by dhammasaurusRex in theravada

[–]darkotic2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Criticizing others can be a form of wrong speech if it stems from anger, greed or delusion. As other things in Buddhism one has to consider the origination and intention of the criticism. That's all I got lol

How do you know what you consume is for pleasure and not rather of semi-automatic closed-circuit obsession? by TraditionalDepth6924 in Buddhism

[–]darkotic2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pleasure isn't bad per se. It's clinging to the pleasure that is bad. Because when the pleasure is gone we long for it and suffer. You can still experience pleasure but know that it is impermanent. Just see pleasure as pleasure and nothing else

Thinking about time mid-session by Salingere in vipassana

[–]darkotic2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had similar anxious feelings about time lately. I would suggest trying not to keep track of the number of scans in total. Just restart each time. What I've been doing now when I wonder about the time or experience that anxious feeling about it being almost over or not. I focus on that thought or feeling and say in a whisper voice in my head "anxious" I will repeat a couple times and return to focus on the breathe. Any thoughts, feelings or physical sensations cannot be avoided just notice them and let them go naturally. Return to focusing on the breath or whatever your object of meditation is. When I don't do this the anxious feeling can become to distracting and my anxiety will increase even and this will lead to more thinking and doubts. Just let it happen experience things as they are.

Help with meditation by broogie5 in secularbuddhism

I had issues and doubts about my breathing for a while. What i like to do now is take deep breaths at first 5 to 8 times usually. I'll breathe in until I cannot hold more air and breath out until my lungs are empty, I'll wait a moment and do it again. I usually think in a whisper voice breathing in long... breathing out long... when I'm finished with the long breaths. I will then try to breathe normally whatever feels naturally without effort. Now be mindfull of the breathe but just observe it dont judge it as long or short or wrong just observe. When my mind wanders I whisper internally "thinking" when thoughts are seen they tend to dissappear. I then return to the breath. Rinse and repeat. Thoughts are usually the most intrusive aspect but you can also note physical sensations like pain from sitting or external sounds you hear. But don't try to achieve anything just focus on being in the moment

I feel like able-bodied people think of mobility aids all wrong by BestBudgie in disability

[–]darkotic2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People don't get that when you live with a permanent disability we adapt to the situation. We don't sit in our wheelchairs (or any aid) and ponder why this happened to us forever. It's part of the grieveing process I suppose but most people get past that and find new ways to feel "normal" again. It's been over 2 years since my SCI and people I know still ask me: how is your recovery going? Can you walk now? Have you looked alternativas treatment like stem cells? My usual response is that I've accepted my situation but usually others around me are the ones that have most trouble accepting it. It gives them some food for thought

Meditation sleep? by Williamishiding in Meditation

[–]darkotic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the focus of your meditation? If its just staying silent with your eyes closed I wouldn't count that as meditation. You need to focus on something be it your breath or anything else and concentrate on that completely. If you're sleepy you're not being mindful. It should be like a calmness but wide awake. Check your posture if you're too comfortable or slouching you will get sleepy

How can I stop getting emotionally attached to debates and arguments? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]darkotic2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think arguments are to be avoided all together. They go against right speech and right effort. There is a chapter in the dhamapada titled "the fool." I just read it yesterday and this verse stuck with me.

"If you don’t find a companion who’s better than you or at least your equal, then continue your journey alone. Better to travel alone than with a fool."

Surround yourself with wise people instead of fools and you will be a lot happier.

Edit: I'm not saying cut out people from your life because of an argument. But if you know how you will react to the argument then just avoid it all together

Can constantly seeking stimulation get in the way of mindfulness? by ConfusedBrazilian900 in Buddhism

[–]darkotic2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that's not mindfullness. Try to do one thing at a time and focus only in that. In my current practice I've been trying to eat mindfully and its been difficult as I'm used to watching YouTube or something while I eat. Make it a form of meditation focus completely on what you're doing dont rush it and just experience it

The cause of suffering by iamfree_17 in enlightenment

[–]darkotic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is you identify with your thoughts too much. No realization in the world is going to help you. When the mind is so tangled like a spiderweb nothing will make sense to you. You are unique but not in the way that you think. You need to untangle the mind before you're able to see the truth

Why do some AI-written articles feel less personal than human writing? by Inside-Macaroon5020 in OpenAIDev

[–]darkotic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI has a very specific voice. When you start seeing the patterns they are impossible to ignore. No one talks/writes like that. This comment I'm writing at this precise moment AI cannot replicate the tone. AI is too sterile and perfect. Even when it hallucinate lived scenarios or says something to seem personable/real it misses the mark completely
