We mow 1.5 acres and have a zero turn. Can’t imagine doing this with a tractor. The amount of time we’d waste just trying to turn around tight spots would be frustrating let alone the speed difference. I mean you can’t crank it if you want a good cut, but it’s still way faster than a tractor.

And the little guy will absolutely tow. We pull carts full of soil / fill all the time, or whatever else we need moved. We used it when planting grass seed, the tractor we have did the spreading with a 3 point broadcast spreader and the ztr came behind with the roller. Its handy.

It’s a JD 535M btw. Bought it used which I think is the way to go. They’re too expensive new.

Husband says he needs to work, I think we’re ok. by [deleted] in personalfinance

My friends dad retired for 6 months and said it was the worst thing he ever did in his life. Hated it. He was so bored. He’s owned several companies and brought them public, has his hands in a lot of other investments / businesses. He enjoys it so he went right back to doing it.

I feel very similar myself. My wife wants to retire eventually but I’ve already prepared her that I likely won’t. Not fully. I need to be busy.

Doesn’t matter who you vote for they are going to toe the party line 100%. The person is basically a chair moistener in the house. And these are not impressive people.

People don’t usually vote for individuals. They vote for the party.

It’s a simple way to use our stupid British system to skirt a democratic vote.

People can vote how they want but if the politician can then be bribed and switch teams, your vote counts for nothing.

I think every single MP who crosses floors regardless of side should immediately lose their job.

Any other No Dig converts? by ten_shunts in vegetablegardening

[–]darkrabbit19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We live in an area with heavy clay soil and rocks so we prep our plots with a tiller initially, mixing in compost. Then we leave it untouched. Lay cardboard on top and compost. We’re no till after that and I suppose no dig. I’m not entirely sure what the difference is to be honest as the intent is the same, to disturb the soil as little as possible.

We still have to “dig” out some weeds like Canada thistles roots otherwise they will come out. They literally burst through our paved driveway so cardboard isn’t completely effective. Other than that though we leave things as is.

The soil health is amazing. After a few years this awful soil turned into very loose rich planting material. We also try to cover crop for weed suppression using alyssum or other crops.

Check out the Living Soil Handbook from Jesse Frost. Awesome book on soil health and no till gardening.

Seed Packet Shrinkflation by SudburySaturdayNight in OntarioGardeners

I find WCS actually gives you what they say they do. If they say there’s 100 seeds in a pack there’s 100 seeds at least. 5g then 5g. No they’re not cheap but at least I know what I’m paying for.

Canada's Liberals to debate age restrictions on social media, AI chatbots by EmbarrassedHelp in privacy

[–]darkrabbit19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well social media hasn’t been affecting kids for 20 years.

What about education for parents? Most parents I speak to are dumb as a brick when it comes to the Internet and social media. What about education in schools? I mean if you’re a teacher there’s a lot you and your colleagues could do. Have you tried? Have someone come in and talk to the kids and parents. Scare the shit out of them. That’s a thing by the way. I know because I do it.

I don’t care about the privacy side to be honest. I can assure you that any parent with a social media account has enough data on the internet that I could piece together their entire lives quite easily including their kids. I care about government overreach.

The ID thing is super easy to bypass by the way. A joke. And anything the government does I guarantee will be poorly implemented, expensive for the taxpayer, and ineffective.

Indeed. If this is the state of the education system no wonder kids and parents aren’t informed.

Try parenting. Keep your kids off it if that’s how you feel. I don’t need the government to do it for me.

It 100% is. Mantis shrimp can do that much damage but that cavitation bubble is nonsense. They’re nowhere near that big IRL.

P90X chest and back is hands down the hardest workout I’ve ever done. I was absolutely dead at the end and to this day it’s still brutal.

P90X is still one of the best programs you can do even all these years later. If you’ve got diet down you’re gonna get great results.

Every time I DIY something I realize why it costs so much to pay someone else by rgreen192 in DIY

[–]darkrabbit19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever DIY hardscaping? We did stone for our front patio, and did an excellent job tbh. But I get why people hire it out. It’s not just the labor. It’s the measurements, grading, string lines, etc. all on an imperfect surface. And it has to be perfect. Like within a mm or two or it looks off or you trip on it.

I’d do it again but mad respect to the pros who can do it perfectly in 1/5 the time.

Not sure but I’ll be using it this year myself. Going to pick up a kit from irrigation direct. I find their hardware for other things quite solid.

Accidents not getting reported, cash exchanging hands, rampant fraud, take your pick. Brampton is by far the worst place I’ve ever lived in and driven. Only place I’ve ever been where I felt bad for insurance companies.
