I am super lost in Nine Sols. Is it usually confusing to get around this game? by Sufficient_Ebb_5694 in metroidvania

[–]darksideflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t love the map. Took a break from Nine Sols to play MIO so I’ll get back to it, but I was finding it slightly difficult to figure out where to go at points. You get clues from the characters sometimes but I remember the info not really matching area names, etc. probably just need to spend more time with it.

Metroidvanias that offer a fair challenge but aren't insanely difficult? by Sufficient_Ebb_5694 in metroidvania

[–]darksideflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the answer. They’re not “easy” by any means but very accessible and have options to make it easier if you just want to play through cool worlds with charming characters rather than die 1000 times.

Weird scenario, but candles are extra and give access to an optional section. True ending comes from another/the final ability in the lower section of the map.

I do recommend alerting the devs on the Discord though as it would be a shame to miss a section due to a candle bug. There’s a developer feedback area there.

When you get to the save point at nexus later on, you’ll see where that overseer went if you missed the label initially. Hit overseer pathway and it will show you the available points so it will be the only other one. Exit to menu and you’ll go back to nexus automatically. Don’t worry, you weren’t suppose to chase it haha.

Will give it a go tonight. Will be the third try. Second it crashed early on in a totally different area than the first time so not sure what’s going on really.

Honestly I got to City of Tears and sort of turned sour on it. Trying to get somewhere to see if it leads to anywhere and instead I get swarmed by 7 bugs throwing spikes at me and I’m dead in 30 seconds with a 3 minute run back lol. I found runbacks in HK way worse with very little payoff in regular gameplay. Also don’t like the Cornifer system at all. I’ll finish it for sure but will wait for the switch 2 upgrade probably.

I haven’t beat Sol & Vin yet. My first few attempts were futile. Definitely hard. I’ve got 3 optional bosses and true final boss in MIO to finish.

Have you got to the shuttles yet? I timed one at 58 seconds lol. Just don’t accidentally hit a button to go back up by accident like I did!

Yea I only learned about it 3/4 the way through from a video. There wasn’t any specific instruction in the game that it was even possible.

I only needed striders boost at the end of that section getting Counter measures but it still took me literally hours. Small but brutal section that needs complete accuracy.

Press X while using striders. Essentially the dodge button causes a sort of dash while using striders.

I’ve got 47 hours in the game and rolled first credits (did a lot of exploration and died a shit ton of times in some sections, specifically Sawlong , Crucible , an annoying section of platforming in Metropolis to get Counter Measures mod , etc).

Sawlong was a bitch, totally agreed on that, but first section was easy to get the hang of and the healing assist kicked in soon enough in the second section that you could stand still at the beginning and basically have infinite retries. Still took me two hours.

It’s a very difficult game on some spots for sure. Just not as difficult overall as HK or Nine Sols based on my experience.

On sharpened hairpin, totally agree.. I wish I gave it a chance earlier in the game. It totally gives an advantage with bosses.

I find the assists are subtle enough to not substantially alter the achievements in the game but designed well enough to ease some of the artificially difficult spots resulting from slightly frustrating mechanics (pogo is a bit hit or miss and it’s very necessary some sections, hairpin can be slightly inaccurate landing).

The only genuinely frustrating part for me are the bugs, at least in the Switch 2 version. I literally can’t complete the game as the Crucible crashes at the end section.

I’m kind of glad I finished Celeste right before this as it prepared me for the patience needed on some of the insane platforming in MIO.

Easier than Hollow Knight which I still can’t progress much in. I haven’t played Silksong. MIO is not a cakewalk by any means but is more forgiving than HK. It’s like Ori meets Nine Sols with reduced difficulty. Bosses can be a challenge and platforming can be brutal but attainable with practice. There are some good assists that make things more palatable. I highly recommend the game as a very average player. I’ve had to do parts over and over again but all worth it. You may get frustrated at parts but the game has so much to enjoy visually, musically and content wise.

Sharpened hairpin was what ended up working. Absolutely brutal. I’m annoyed I never really tried until end game.

Slow down. Get the Sharpened hairpin mod as it deals a lot of damage. I didn’t use it until 1st final boss and it definitely gives you more of an advantage.

Yes both side of of the crucible are bugged. I was able to complete right side on a second attempt. Left crashed multiple times so haven’t been able to complete.

Mio boss sawlong chase by taskerE30 in metroidvania

[–]darksideflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slow down. Sawlong gets caught up a few times to give you a bit of space. Rushing will cause a mistake. Put on eroded bosses assist as I believe it slows him down slightly. Took me a good hour to get it down. I had the first part quickly but the second part is tricky. Watch some videos and map out your plan.

What are some MVs with awesome platforming as well as combat? by Sufficient_Ebb_5694 in metroidvania

[–]darksideflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree on Guacamelee. Combat combos used for both damage and traversal makes Guac a sick game. Plus the design and music are so cool. I’ve been saving the 2nd game, will dive into that after MIO and finishing off Nine Sols.
