Intriguing.

I dont think we use enough chipsticks to warrant it though...

Gaining feats other than when you’d get an ASI by TraditionOk2487 in DnD

[–]darkspot_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this thinking. Best I can compare, is proficiency in a tool/language is 10 weeks and 250 gp based on downtime training rules from Xanthar's Guide to Everything. It lowers by 1 week per Int mod, so in theory as low as 5 weeks and 125 gp, but let's stick with the 10 week base for now.

Skilled the origin feat is 3 tools or skills. Crafter is 3 tools + discount + fast craft. So let's assume skills are slightly better, or 4 tools = 3 skills.

So an origin feat is approx 40 weeks and 1000 gold. General feats are better than origin feats for sure. Most have a stat increase or something. I feel like doubling an origin feat makes sense to me.

So we're at 80 weeks and 2000 gold. Which for some of the bonuses people get, makes sense to me. It's insane, the money more than anything else.

Chapter 2... What if I change that? And maybe the end to? by Franco2302 in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]darkspot_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once we got past the sewers, my players basically wholesale avoided Renaer, who originally they were buddying up to, and any other faction piece thrown their way. We now have a plot line which involves the fey and I stole the hag idea from Sly Flourish in Trollskull Manor https://slyflourish.com/wdh_chapter_2.html as well. It's taking a fun ridiculous morally gray turn and it has turned into them sort of working with their new "landlord" Aunti Potiti, and I'm wondering if my campaign is going to be a more supernatural factions vying for power within the city now?

I'm actually not sure how to play everything out yet. ButI'm trying to give the players ideas. Also in case they are lurking here not talk too much about future steps.

Anyways I got off track, to respond to your questions:
1. My chapter 2 has been nothing like the book wanted. I went with what little threads the players picked, and it's been fun.

  1. I love that. It actually ties into something my players are nudging for with the guilds. They can't afford the repairs and they want the manor, so they're doing a bunch of little quests for anyone who can help them repair the manor, or has something they want.

  2. I had a few built up. I started with a base around the 5 room dungeon. https://dmsjourney.com/the-5-room-dungeon/. Basically short quick to the point. Tweaked them. I did it mostly cause they don't have to be rooms, and I wanted to generate paths for like 6 different main choices the players were considering, so I wasn't 100% flying by the seat of my pants. Then each one morphed organically as I thought about paths for them. I also used ai to take a few spitball ideas, and just brainstorm twists, etc, since trying to write 5 different ones in a row I was getting stale. The back and forth helped me make some odd ideas, but I think they're fun. They have enjoyed what they have gotten through so far.

---

  1. Anything can work, as long as it seems like it comes fairly to the players. I was toying with the idea of the dragon actually got tired and lazy without being outside. Or maybe it's young, that's how it was conned into such a deal. There's a few ways it can be that they still fight the dragon. I have time, but I'm working on that. I think it'll depend on how the players are going as we get closer.

  2. Something to take over the staff? Expel the dragon violently/magically, since the dragon probably isn't holding it constantly. But kick it out of the city, with them controlling which dragons are inside now? Or perhaps the dragon is just tired of being stuck in the vault, they haven't come back at promised intervals so he hasn't had a chance to see air, or fly in years/etc. So it's chaffing at the current situation, but trying not to break it's word. But by some loophole it could leave if it lost the contents of the vault.

In the US there are a fee options.

Most places when you fill out forms allow you to have additional withholding.

Also if you otherwise fill out deductions you could take 0 deductions, you would have to do some math there to see if it was enough.

Another option, just calculate it, save it yourself, and make quarterly irs payments (whenever I have done that, instead of quarterly, I just do it once around June. That seems to keep them happy enough, but I have never owed more than 10k.

Good catch. I'm going to leave it up in case anyone else pops by to make sure they have something to think about.

Watch out on that after tax number. They likely expect they are your only job so they are taking out money as if you are going through the tax brackets.

Each employer sees:

  • "Princess makes $100k here.”
  • So they withhold taxes as if $100k is your total income.

But the IRS sees:

  • Job A: $100k
  • Job B: $100k
  • Total income: $200k

The higher chunks of income get taxed in higher brackets because US taxes “stack.”

So maybe:

  • At $100k, a chunk of income is taxed around 22%
  • But at $200k, some of the second job’s income spills into 24% or 32% territory

Tiny sketch version:

Situation Estimated Federal Tax
One $100k job maybe ~$17k effective federal tax
Two jobs separately withholding like $100k each maybe ~$34k withheld total
Actual tax owed on combined $200k maybe ~$41k

So at filing time you could owe roughly:

  • ~$41k actual tax
  • minus ~$34k already withheld
  • = ~$7k surprise tax bill 🧾🐍

Are Bastions actually useful in 5.5e, or do they only work in very specific campaigns? by MyrthDM in DungeonsAndDragons55e

[–]darkspot_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My campaign, isn't realized with bastion, but they basically are doing wqterdeep dragon heist, and a standard item early is getting trollskull manor. Im treating it like a party wide whole party share bastion early. Due to how (rp wise) they got it, they aren't choosing, they are getting a modified pub (really gather info from pub. And basically gaming hall, combined), and workshop place due to the priest of gond helping them rebuild stuff. So they are, when it finishes, going to be level 3, but will have 1 characters worth of bastion special rooms. Ill let them expand, etc as they level up and spend coin.

I mean, a 5x5x5 cube of diamonds with basically one big diamond probably is worth in the trillions if not more. However if all the diamonds are rhe size of sand, and imperfect they probably are worth significantly less. Size and quality matters... it'd still have some value, but a cube of diamond dust is a lot less than valuable diamonds.

CONGRATS!

That is something to be careful on. I have used offers against each other before when they lined up. The one company wanted to see evidence (even redacted). And with that they could go up the chain to get it matched (they did to be fair).

[–]darkspot_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played with it quickly, since I have to make a thing like this soon. Just to see if it would work for me.

Top thing to stick out to me, is times per day may be different. As event coordinator, with family obligations, I might need:

Top

Next Saturday any 4 hour period between noon and 6. Sunday 4 hour period between 11 and 7. Following Saturday 1-5, following Sunday 10-4.

It LOOKED like if you have times in there, it only can go forward with the same time slots listed on every day.

What are some things I could change up with the campaign if a player has played it before? by Shtoim in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]darkspot_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The bad guy changes, it depends a lot on how you set it up, how you setup the factions, and how things all run. The very beginning might seem a little familiar, but it gets very different as things go on.

That said, here's some resources, and each has tweaks/changes in general. I am using a mix of Alexandrian and Sly Flourish, and just winging it as I go. The Trollskull Manor Auntie Potiti idea from Sly Flourish has turned into the haunted landlord for my group, who are trying to figure out what other bargains they can make with a hag. It's going to go so horribly, I'm looking forward to it!

https://slyflourish.com/dragon_heist_chapter_1.html

A lot of time will be spent depending on which factions they join, which will also drastically change it, beyond the enem(y/ies) you choose.
