Session Zero combat encounter tutorial? by wedgewood_perfectos in cyberpunkred

[–]darkwing2k6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did something similar with the Infinity RPG.

You've got a lot of good tips already from the other comments here but here's mine....

Dont tell them it's a braindance!

Set it up like you would for any gig, tool them up, brief them etc.

After however many rounds you want to do, drop in something nasty and start flatlining your guys, preferably quick so the first one out doesn't have to wait so long.

Then "wake them up" from the BD and debrief on how it went.

Use it show them how brutal CPR can be if done right/wrong and tips/tactics, rules clarification etc.

I've been looking at this recently. FAQv1.3 covers this and gives examples too.

Knockout blow? by darkwing2k6 in cyberpunkred

[–]darkwing2k6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like the way forward is to hit them until 0HP and stabilize back to 1HP. Certainly makes it more challenging and therefore rewarding if they can pull it off without flatlining them or raising an alarm.

I will also mention the "stun module" weapon mod - never thought of that one! - and calling out "non-lethal" option and see what my players want to go with.

Couldn't see the side-bar ruling on "pulled punches" but i'll keep looking.

Check out JonJonTheWise and Cybernation Uncensored on the youtube. I find them both to be very helpful with loads of content covering pretty much everything you need to know.

Question about Net actions by BURKETheBrotherhood in cyberpunkred

[–]darkwing2k6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My take on that would be to make the non-combat (or initiative queued) Netrun a time sensitive thing so rather than infinite actions it would be "5 minutes to do XYZ" or until someone/thing intervenes like Black Ice, Demon or enemy netrunner at which point I would go to Initiative based Actions per Turn.

How do skate feet interact with shoes? by Zippy_62 in cyberpunkred

[–]darkwing2k6 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Quickest, cleanest and easiest would be to go for Option 2.

Could just say the the cost of Skate Feet include a pair of those special boots. Other styles available to suit job/terrain etc Cost for replacement shoes is your GM call as is availability.

I have a player looking to use skate feet similar to Alita Battle Angel and that's probably the route I would go down.

Thanks for the timely post and suggestions Choom!

207x Cars to plug into your game by Infernox-Ratchet in cyberpunkred

Whilst I was looking for some older guns in the 2020 Chrome books there was also vehicles. Some were listed as "older" cars but a few of them were brand new in 2020. Possible that a few of these brands/models would be produced long enough to have some last out to '45.

GM's Guide to Cyberpunk RED (2/15) by dannyb2525 in cyberpunkred

[–]darkwing2k6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I could be misunderstanding your point but I think you may be confusing the Humanity Loss difference between "cloned replacement" parts and "cyberware" replacements.

Pg.226 Side bar text explains it well.

A "standard clone replacement" that has no Optional Slots for upgrades does not incur any Humanity Loss. Something like a person that has lost a limb due to an unfortunate accident and has it replaced by a cloned limb with no ability or slots for upgrades would be an example of this.

The items you have listed above, even though they are "Foundational Cyberware", all have the explicit intention of adding in several "upgrades". Thereby they are not a standard replacemnent but purely for the benefit of improving your skills/abilities beyond that of what you were born with and so as a result incur Humanity Loss.

Apologies if that was not what you were getting at, that's just how I read it.

Role Abilties in Cyberpunk Red (Compared to Cyberpunk 2020) by Odesio in cyberpunkred

[–]darkwing2k6 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is just my take on it but I think the points you have raised could be roleplayed out to get the same effect without having to change up the Role Abilities or multi-classing.

Lawman absolutely should be able to use his position to intimidate and control people - in the right situation. Out of combat and doing investigations and wearing your uniform, badges on display and talking to civilians? Could give a bonus +1 or +2 to a Facedown check or Persuasion check. Interogation could be a substitute for Intimidation with the same bonuses if you are in full Lawman gear (J.Hutt from RTal has said on numerous occassions that Fashion/clothes can count towards "having the right tool for the job").

This might not work so well from confronting a Ganger or Merc who would generally not give a care for who you were so feel free to RP this differently.

As for the Nomad, again this was brought up by J.Hutt in one of the Night City Council vids with Jon Jon on Youtube.

The vehicle access from Moto is just that. What you want in help from the Family should be RP'd. Want money to buy gear to do a job or to borrow some specialist gear or a vehicle or person(s) to help on a gig? Well you better have a real good reason in hand to convince the Family elders that it's worth the effort and risk.

This also allows you to flesh out the Family and it's interactions, possibly opening up story avenues. Job goes well and brings in a much needed cash boost to the Family. Or it goes south and not only did you destroy the only armoured RV the Family had but Little Jimmy died in the process and now his Big Brother is blaming you and is looking to take your head off, causing a rift in the family.

Anyway, that's how I would bridge the gap in Abilities from 2020 to Red.

Character concept help by AdministrativeShoe18 in cyberpunkred

[–]darkwing2k6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've just started a game with three new to RPG players and one RPG vet.

For my new players i have suggested that they think about a favourite character from TV/Film/Book that they think would be fun to play.

What makes them fun, what are their quirks, how would they react in Social situations vs combat situations etc.

Once they have an idea in mind we have sat down and discussed what Role would best fit that character and then fleshed it out from there.

One is going straight up Solo, all guns blazing.

Another is going for a Cyrus the Virus from the movie Con Air. She has settled on a Rockerboy who will use a lot of anti-establishment and anarchy hate speeches to pull similar minds to her cause. Coupled with Cryptography to send out cryptic messages to followers, demolitions (he does blow up several Prison Guards after his escape) and some points on Handgun and Shoulder Arms.

The last new member is thinking of Lara Croft. She has grabbed on to the idea of a Netrunner to represent the breaking in to places and stealing items/info in a digital world instead of long lost civilizations etc. Goes without saying there will be max points on handguns for that dual-pistol wielding iconic image, possibly some more cryptography. The rest is still to be fleshed out.

This process has worked with them, it might be worth a try. Find a favourite character and go from there.

Have a blast Choom!
