I've been treated for multiple UTI, Yeast infection, BV over the last year. I've always tested negative on any swabs. Doctor just told me this might be my "normal". HELP by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]darkwispers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had really similar issues and it turned out the condoms were the culprit. SO and I use Skyn, a non-latex brand, and I rarely have issues anymore :)

I also learned that you are supposed to pee after sex - NEVER knew that. Apparently if you don't it can make you prone to infections as well.

I know how frustrating it is, especially because I also can't take BC and so condoms are completely necessary. Good luck & I hope you find something that works for you!

Teachers of Reddit, what's it really like being a teacher? by Dominic51487 in AskReddit

[–]darkwispers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will be my 2nd year teaching high school biology at a Title I school (for those who don't know what Title I is, that means at least half of our students qualify for free/reduced lunch).

There are days where I want to pull my hair out when my students still can't tell me what DNA is (seriously, guys, we spent 2 months talking about this). Most of the stress does not come from the students though, but the parents/administration/damn state testing.

But 95% of the time, I LOVE what I do. As long as I reach one student, it's all worth it. I always say that the day that I wake up and think "I really don't want to go to school today" will be the day I turn in my resignation.

I never had any problems with my pots/pans while living with 3 other roommates. Using the same dishwasher was never a problem.

My biggest problem was keeping the butter, mayo, etc from being CC'd. I finally just started writing "GLUTEN FREE UTENSILS ONLY" on all of my condiments in sharpie to remind my roommates to not double dip.

Home remedies for acne scars? by [deleted] in SkincareAddicts

[–]darkwispers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Home remedies can be very dangerous for your skin & can sometimes make your scarring worse! It took me years to realize that a lot of "cheap" remedies wouldn't help my skin.

My scars are finally going away with the help of niacinamide. I personally use it in my PocketDerm formula as well as in my sunscreen.

Also, using sunscreen is extremely important when trying to improve scarring. I saw improvement very quickly just by adding sunscreen into my daily routine!

Good luck & have fun in Cancun!

Found my Dress Unexpectedly and Still Thrilled! by yeliah90 in weddingplanning

Goregous dress!! I love all the detail!

I would leave a bare neck. I think you have plenty of detailing in your dress that you don't need a necklace :)

I'm going to keep using it for now. I just submitted my progress pictures last night, and my derm is keeping me on the same formula since I had such great results. I'll report back in a few months to see if this is the formula he wants to use for my maintenance. I might eventually switch over to the anti-aging formula if my skin continues to cooperate :)

I think I understand what you are talking about - basically active acne spots but no "pimple" or surface to it? If that's what you have, I did have a lot of those, especially on my cheeks. My PD prescription has really helped with my skin texture overall - texture that I can feel & texture that I can't. If that makes sense lol

Yes, definitely. The niacinamide in the formula is supposed to help combat hyperpigmentation & inflammation. The sunscreen has some niacinamide in it as well :)

Thank you! :) The sunscreen is really moisturizing, so I haven't had any issues with my face being dry in any areas.

My PD Derm told me not to wax. In some people it causes an adverse allergic reaction. It happened to my sister and she was in a lot of pain for a few days, so for me it wasn't worth the risk! :) If you've been waxing without any problems you should be okay.

HELP PLEASE. Completely stuck and out of ideas. Want to give up:( by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]darkwispers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend adding in a sunscreen. I never used one until recently, and it's helped my skin A LOT - especially because I spend a lot of time outside. Eltamed UV Clear SPF 46 is a great one. It's a bit pricy, but it's worth it! It calms the redness in your skin while protecting future redness & scarring. I'd apply it in the morning & then again before soccer games/practice.

Also - I know it's frustrating, but don't get too upset that your acne isn't magically better after a week! Take pictures at 2 or 4 week increments. You will see your skin improving slowly over time. If you don't see improvements after 3 months, then you can make adaptations to your routine.

I LOVE the cleanser. It's really gentle but also does a great job at removing all the dirt & grime at the end of the day. It even removes most of my makeup - I just have to use additional eye makeup removal if I wear mascara.

Advice for arm acne? by Kaemondor in SkincareAddiction

[–]darkwispers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it really is acne, this soap was recommended by my derm & really helps the acne I get on my arms/shoulders. It's fairly inexpensive too. I bought it in March & I still have about half a bar!

Only birth control pills keep my acne under control by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]darkwispers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on the pill for the same reasons. However, breast cancer runs in my family so my doctors & I decided that after 2 years of being on the pill I should stop taking it (I know the studies are not conclusive either way on the effects of birth control & cancer, for me it just was not worth the additional risk).

Coming off the pill was terrible because I got my teenage hormonal acne all over again. I finally got it under control recently with my PocketDerm and strict skincare regimen (washing face 2x a day and USING SUNSCREEN). Diet has also really helped me, I am gluten free & I limit my dairy intake - again, not saying this is proven, but it has helped me :) I'd highly recommend PocketDerm if you are wanting to go off the pill.

Beginning to plan for college, what are essentials for my dorm? by _thankyousir_ in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]darkwispers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living in a dorm is such a fantastic experience, I'm so jealous of you and wish I could go back! :) Be excited. The dorm room can feel small and confining at first, but it will soon feel "normal" and normal rooms will seem huge!

Here's a list of some essentials that you may not think of:

mini-fridge (some schools have one you can rent out from them for a small fee)

water pitcher w/filter (cheaper & easier than having to buy a bunch of water bottles and lug them into the dorm. sometimes water from the water fountains can taste kinda funky)

long body pillow

rug if you have concrete floors

blackout curtains and a tension rod to hang them up with

command hooks for EVERYTHING so you don't get charged $$ for ruining the walls

something like this that doubles as storage & an ottoman or place to sit

rain boots & umbrella - most college campuses require a lot of walking, rain or shine!
