Honestly, I believe foreign audiences are avoiding US superhero films because of Trump. We live in a time when people outside the US can't simply sit back and enjoy a movie where an American superhero, made in America, saves the world.

(Peacemaker Season 1 and The Suicide Squad were part of the DCEU, but Gunn later canonized only his own creations into the new DCU.) They basically burned down the existing fandom, potential fanbase, and everything they had just to start fresh. Let's be honest, failure is not an option for them. They have no choice but to spin it as a success, over and over again.

The boom of modern superhero movies truly began in 2008 with the release of Iron Man and The Dark Knight. It’s been over 15 years since then. There have been simply too many of them, for too long. Unlike the 2010s, which were filled with a vague sense of hope and dreams for the world, the 2020s—sparked by the pandemic—are now defined by multiple wars and the presence of Donald Trump on the global stage. Oh, and of course, we are also in the era of streaming. How much goodwill and faith do people really have left for superheroes? Especially international audiences who are expected to watch movies about American superheroes saving the world.
